Product Description

Groundhog Day 207 "Hip hip hooray, it’s Ground Hog Day!" Jack is so excited for his favorite holiday and can’t wait to find out if the ground hog will see her shadow or not! But he might not find out because a scared Gertrude the Ground Hog runs into the clubhouse and nervously peeks out the window, "Are they out there yet? Are they?" Jack and the gang learn that today is Gertrude’s first Ground Hog Day as the ground hog (the one who everyone gathers around to find out if it sees its own shadow). But Gertrude can’t do it, she doesn’t want to be the center of attention, she’s too shy to face all the people and cameras! Gertrude is not going out there! What will happen to Ground Hog Day?! Jack and the Bean Stalk 208 Jack finds some magic beans, which promptly grow into a huge beanstalk, breaking through the clubhouse ceiling, straight up into the clouds. Jack and the gang climb up to investigate and find themselves at the enormous door of a beautiful kingdom high above the clouds. It is here Jack, Mary and Mel meet the Giant, who is very sad. The Giant explains that he just doesn’t know what to get his wife for her birthday. All he has given her in the past are golden eggs, and she’s had enough of them. After trying out some gift ideas, the gang decides that the Giant should give his wife the gift of song. But what song will he sing? How Mel Got His Groove Back 102 Today, the clubhouse is rocking big-time! Mel gets a little carried away with his drum solo and accidentally sends a drum flipping through the air. The drum lands right on Mel and bonks him on the head. We soon discover Mel the dog thinks he’s a cat! Jack tries to bring back Mel’s "dog-gone" memory with his favorite dog toys and treats. Luckily, our good friend Cathy stops by and teaches us a song that gets Mel’s doggie groove back! What a day! Little Bad Wolf 101 Hold on to your musical instruments. Jack, Mary and Mel get a visit from The Little Bad Wolf, the Big Bad Wolf’s brother. He huffs and puffs and blows the instruments all over the place making piles of musical messes. How can we get The Little Bad Wolf to stop blowing down the clubhouse? We can teach him how to play the perfect instrument for a wolf full of hot air. He learns how to blow a tuba! The Little Bad Wolf helps us rock the clubhouse and we all make marvelous music together. What a day!

Jack's Big Music Show is a Nickelodeon television program that features puppetry, music, and guest performances by popular children's music artists. Puppets Jack, his friend Mary, and dog Mel have a special clubhouse where they meet to make music together and where visitors often stop in for some musical fun and a little help solving problems. The barbershop-inspired Schwartzman (puppet) Quartet comes visiting in each episode and there's always one or two music video interludes featuring popular children's music artists like The Laurie Berkner Band (We Are . . . the Laurie Berkner Band), Sweet Honey in the Rock (Sweet Honey in the Rock--Singing for Freedom), Dirty Sock Funtime Band Mr. Clown and the Day the Sun Got Wet, or Steve Burns and Steven Drozd. "Groundhog Day" features The Daily Show's Jon Stewart as a reporter for the Groundhog News reporting on the story of Gertrude Groundhog--a groundhog who's too nervous and shy to come out in public to look for her shadow. When Gertrude calls at the clubhouse, Jack, Mary, and Mel provide encouragement and a special song to bolster Gertrude's self-confidence and help her fulfill her Groundhog duties. "Jack and the Beanstalk" puts a new spin on a classic fairytale when Jack, Mary, and Mel help Mr. Giant find the perfect birthday gift for his wife. "How Mel Got His Groove Back" stresses the importance of liking oneself while helping Mel the dog recover from a bang on the head that leaves him meowing like a cat and "Little Bad Wolf" provides an ever-huffing and puffing little wolf with an introduction to music and the perfect musical instrument. Watch for Steve Burns' (formerly from Blue's Clues--Shapes and Colors) music video "I Hog the Ground" and The Laurie Berkner Band's music video "Space Ship" in the bonus features. Jack's Big Music Show is an entertaining series that exposes children ages 1 to 5 to a variety of musical styles while promoting a wholesome message about believing in oneself. --Tami Horiuchi

Anything Jack's Big Music Show get's a 5 star rating in my book. My issue with this product is it is claiming to be "season 1" however when you receive the dvd it is only 4 episodes, 1 of which was just released in 2007. The Bongo Bird Laurie Berkner

We also have all these shows from the first two seasons on our DVR and had emailed the company long ago when we were waiting for the second season. I can't believe they're finally releasing this show on DVD but they're only putting 4 episodes on one DVD. Why not the whole first season? I'd pay more and have all of it because $15 for four short episodes is too much. And I don't think they're even the best episodes. The groundhog one was one of the weaker shows, we thought. The only reason to buy this would be to get the Jack and the Beanstalk episode, and I'm not sure that's worth the price. We're really disappointed that they're releasing this great show in bits and pieces.

My 2 year old loves Jack and I bought the DVD Let's Rock for a long plane ride to Hawaii. When I got the DVD turned out there were only 4 episodes. Strange they didnt do a whole season. I would wait for a larger set to come out. 15 dollars is too much to spend on 4 episodes.
Spiffy Pictures replied to my email saying it was up to Noggin so please please send emails to Noggin asking them to release more episodes and some merchandise, Dora is pasted all over the place so why isnt JBMS being shared???

You have to suffer through 5 solid minutes of promos for other Nick shows before you can get to the Title Menu. Simply unacceptable.

My 2 year old loves Jack. When I saw this dvd I was so excited because now she can be on the go and take this along. I have all the episodes Tivo'd but this is nice. I agree with the other reviewers that 4 episodes were not enough, but they will probably release several discs. I don't care for Groundhog Day either, but the other episodes are great.

Thank you Jack's Big Music Show! This show entertained our youngest daughter from the first moment she watched it when she was about 6 months old. Not only that, but my older daughter loves it just as much and she was 5. I have to admit that my Husband and I love the songs as much as our kids and sing them quite often...especially the Laurie Berkner songs and The Dirty Socks Funtime Band songs. We have been waiting for this to come out on DVD for a long time now. I'm so glad it will be out soon for us to buy and we can finally free up some space on our Tivo....there was no way we were going to delete these without a DVD backup. Btw, the first season of this show had such great reviews and had parents begging them for more that they couldn't put off making a second season any longer. Hopefully, they are working on the third season now. I have been buying from Amazon for a very long time and this is the first review I've ever written....that's how much we love this show.

We wouldn't have survived the first two years of our very "spirited" son's life without this show. It is the ONLY, ONLY thing that calms him down and captures his attention when he's having a bad tantrum or night terror. We've watched this on the DVR at 3 in the morning, 4 in the morning, all hours of the day and night over the past 2 years. It NEVER gets old, and I find that really amazing. I can quote all the episodes verbatim, sing all the songs, but I'm not even sick of this show. As an adult I still enjoy watching it.

It's bright, colorful, moves along but doesn't get boring. There is no mind-numbing repetition (a la Dora) and the dialogue is intelligent enough to entertain adults. They manage to teach a lot without banging you over the head that they're trying to teach you (another problem I have with shows like Dora, etc.) Jack and Mary & Mel make learning about different types of music, instruments and even life lessons FUN and memorable.

Our guy is only 2, so obviously alot of it goes over his head. But he is mesmerized by the colorful characters and loves dancing to the music. Lately he's been trying to sing along with the songs too, and has picked up many new words from the show. He's been a difficult (but sweet) kid his whole life, and the only time I ever get a break is when Jack is on. It really engages him and he never seems to get tired of it either.

We owe Spiffy Pictures our undying gratitude for creating such a brilliant, smart, funky and fabulous show. IMO, it's better than Sesame Street was in its heyday, but that's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary, but there is no better show for children out there, period.
