A bit disappointed...
on March 15, 2012
I hate to say, but I was a little disappointed. I have placed a few orders with Yummy Spoonfuls and have been completely satisfied, BUT in an effort to have more variety for my baby I tried Jack's Harvest thinking they would be a great choice since they had a 5 star rating.
I actually ordered Yummy Spoonfuls variety pack the same day I placed my order for the Jack's Harvest Little Lumpy Sampler pack. The estimated ship date provided was several days away, but both orders arrived super fast.
Butternut squash-ed apples was the huge disappointment for me. This was first flavor I tried. My baby did not like it at all. I tried it and I did not like it at all either which shocked me as I am used to sampling her Yummy Spoonfuls baby food and it always tastes great to me. It was super tart and just not an enjoyable taste. I did not give up after the first try. I have tried this food at least 4 times now and I get the same reaction. I have tried mixing with other foods, but that flavor is very powerful and hard to mask. Today, I officially gave up on this flavor as I tried it again and my baby took one bite, made the "I don't like this" face and then started to cry as I tried to get her to eat more. I took a taste again and had to agree with her. Then I felt guilty...why do I keep trying to get her to eat this if I don't even think it tastes good? So down the drain it went as well as my $$$ :-( My Yummy Spoonfuls variety pack also had a Butternut Squash and Apples flavor included so after seeing my baby's reaction to Jack's Butternut Squash and Apples, I thought for sure that she was not going to eat the Yummy Spoonfuls as well BUT to my surprise, she did great with the Yummy Spoonfuls Butternut Squash and Apples. I too noticed a huge difference...much better flavor. Is it possible that I got a bad batch of Butternut squash-ed apples...some really, really tart apples in my batch???
Goin' back to cauli - my baby did not like this flavor at first, but I think it has grown on her. Perhaps Jack's Harvest has a little more "flavor" than she was used to with the added herbs and spices. I think this one tastes decent. I like that is is a unique flavor as I have not seen anyone else make a cauliflower flavor.
Sweet on Broccoli - a winner in my book! My daughter has done well with this flavor and I really like the "dash of cinnamon"
So bottomline, Jack's Harvest did not work out too well for us. It really bothers me that 1/3 of my order is going to be wasted. However, to you parents out there who want to offer frozen organic foods, I would not say don't try Jack's because who knows what my baby did not like, your baby may like. As for us, we are going to stick with Yummy Spoonfuls as that is what works for us.
One last thing...I think the Jack's Harvest hearts are cute, but being used to Yummy Spoonfuls, I found the hearts to be a little inconvenient. I am used taking plastic container from freezer to fridge, then opening a plastic container and spooning out what I need then putting the container back in the fridge. With Jack's I first have to find tupperware containers to put the hearts in then put in the fridge to defrost. Not a big deal, but if I had a choice, I prefer to have in a container so I can just take directly from freezer to fridge.
