"Jacksboro Highway", February 24, 2000

Very expressive, instrumentally as well as lyrically. Uninhibited, encompassing versatility with something for everyone of all ages no matter what your fav. style of music is. This one really moves, push the chairs outta da way; you won't be sittin' still listening to this one. Your toes will be tappin', head a'bobbin' and everything connected in between! I especially liked, "Keep What I Got", "Brown Bag Blues", and the title track was a treat. I say: Get It! 'Taint no disappointment to be had from this cd! Enjoy!

I really enjoyed this CD. I can't even imagine the wonderful sounds and creativity coming from the Parnell home during their growing up years.
The harmonica, slide guitar, and vocals are excellent! My favorite songs are Jacksboro Highway and Oopin' Doopin' Doopin'.
Jacksboro Highway is an outstanding song. Nicholson,Carter, Carter, and Wilson have really captured the feel of this dubious geographic location. The magnificent soulful delivery of LeeRoy, Rob Roy, and Waylon Jennings, places the listener right in the middle of this stretch of 199.
Oopin Doopin Doopin is just plain fun!
My thanks to all involved in this wonderful CD.

PURE TEXAS, January 30, 2000
This review is from: Jacksboro Highway (Audio CD)
Rob Roy Parnell has pulled one out of the hat........what a great cd. This is simply 'Pure Texas'. It oozes blues... the harp playing from Rob Roy is sensational, stylistically individual and a joy to listen to. The songs are well written with a true blues feel. The production from Lee Roy Parnell allows the musicians to show what they are made of. There is no mistaking this for anything but the real deal....and that long lost Slim Harpo tune is worth the disc price on it's own. There is a tip of the hat to many blues players like Guitar Slim and there is plenty of Rob Roy Parnell aswell. One of the best Texas blues cd's in years.......hurry up Rob and do another one. Better still come to Australia so I can see you live! Thoroughly recommended.
