This review is from: Jackson Pollock: Drawing Into Painting [Exhibition Catalog, 1980] (Paperback)
There are two superior Jackson pollock tomes on the market; one by Varnedoe, the other equally great by Landau. Both shall give you everything you can possibly know about Pollock and packed full of great painting reproductions ( A+ ) books.

But this little gem has something that's not found in any of our 8 Pollock art books. 'Drawing into painting' is full of 52 full page reproductions of his ink drawings. Bold, raw, intense black ink on paper drawings. Some meant as studies for his large masterpieces, others just drawings as cathartic exercises.

We are used to his heavy paleontolic paint application. Magnificent, brilliant! But in this book you see the primordial roots of his work. The bones and tendons if you will.

A natural raw draftsmanship. His ability to elaborate the simplest subconscious line or gesture and obsess it into a masterpiece.

This is not a big cockTail table book. But it has alot to say and show that shall enlighten even the hardest Pollock fan.
