5.0 out of 5 stars Very very thin booklet
I love Jacob Collins paintings, but I was very disappointed with number of paintings in this book. I can't even call it a book, it is a small booklet. To my opinion the best paintings of Jacob Collins are missing. Otherwise - the quality of reproduction is good and it is better then nothing. I rate it 5 stars for the quality of photographs and for the 1st publication of...

1.0 out of 5 stars rip-off
25 dollars for 24 pages (yes indeed) is way to expensive.
This is not a book, its a brochure. You can find more pictures on the internet than in the booklet.
Very disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, August 9, 2007

Because it's Jacob Collins, just had to have it. But was disappointed in the book and even in some of the paintings. Some of the figures felt clumsy, others are gorgeous. Worth seeing but personally I prefer the paintings Collins did as illustrations for the children's book " The Christmas Candle." These are more interesting, less slick, and with much more psychological depth, plus some experimentation with lighting. It's interesting that this earlier work done to serve as "illustration" seems so much more worthy than some of the more recent paintings meant to sell as fine art.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let posterity be the judge, March 26, 2008
This review is from: Jacob Collins: Figures (Paperback)
Jacob Collins has boldly, defiantly, stepped out from behind whatever has obscured the 20th century's view of traditional, figurative painting - seen for decades as irrelevant to the ongoing life of art. Jacob Collins' work and approach reconnect us to the wonderful Western tradition of figurative painting. Challenging, beautiful, confronting, and as contemporary as our own bodies, Collins' art reasserts the right of the human figure to speak for our own times. Roger Kimball's text supports and places Collins' work in the opening decades of the 21st century:posterity will surely have something to say of all this, when so much other current 'art' has wilted and disintegrated. (Text augments the beautiful reproductions).

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Book!, March 15, 2008

This review is from: Jacob Collins: Figures (Paperback)
This is thin book for its price. But the quality of print is just superb without eaven speaking of the spectacular paintings. Worth of the 25$ because the technique that shows in the paintings is so good. To me not one of the figures looked "clumsy".

The text by Kimball is about the todays art field and about philosophy behind Collins paintings.

This is more of a catalogue than an actual book. The reproductions are beautiful and very inspiring.
