I had the pleasure of seeing Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol in Chicago at the Goodman Theater over Thanksgiving weekend (performed entirely by author Tom Mula). His performance inspired me to read the book. I don't know which I enjoyed more! Both, in a word, terrific!

Marley and the bogel take the reader on a wonderous journey through Scrooges transformation from crudgemudgon to Christmas spirit. Author Tom Mula has created a story destined to be a Christmas classic in it's own right. In the Dickens style the reader views Scrooges change from Jacob Marley's side of the picture. Aided, and sometimes abeted, by the bogel Marley leads Scrooge, himself, the bogel, and the reader along the path to the true meaning of Christmas. Any who read it or have it read to them cannot help but enjoy this story. Bravo to Mr. Mula for creating this work.

Mr. Mula has created more than an outstanding tribute to the Dickens' original; he has created a modern classic in its own right. Jacob Marley's case is taken up with humor and sensitivity as we follow his personal journey to redeem his former partner, Ebenezer Scrooge.

A wonderul book with enormous insight, JACOB MARLEY'S CHRISTMAS CAROL will touch you as much the ninth time as it will the first.

I have read or seen a production of Dickens' A Christmas Carol at least 25 times. Would I really like another version of this same story by a comtemporary author? Yes! I loved this book, and so did the young woman to whom I gave it for Christmas. This is certainly not a substitute for the Dickens' gem, but it is a nice supplement. I'm sure I'll read it many times, and I plan to give more gift copies.

This wonderful little book is a welcome addition to the Dicken's classic. Mula's writing skill, creativity, and love for the original is evident throughout this work. If you love the original, you must have this!

As a Dickons reader and enjoyer, I can testify the author has caught the Dicksonian style beautifully. But, I must confess, I've only HEARD the book read aloud on an NPR affiliate. On the basis of that I would recommend it be read by all who have come to love the original "Scrooge" Christmas Carol by Charles Dickons. It is "the same story" from Marley's point of view. Movement from abysmal greed to heavenly generosity with the help of the 3 spirits and an imp.

We have made it a tradition to read this story every Christmas. It is EXCELLENT!

This is a an absolutely delightful read. It pays respectful homage to Mr. Dickens while taking us on a journey that is heartfelt, funny and poignant. Mr. Mula's creative portrayal of the real story behind the Marley visit to Scrooge on Christmas Eve will stay with readers long after finishing the book. I will be giving the book to many friends and family this holiday in the hopes of creating a new tradition - the annual reading of Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol. Leave it to a child - Mr. Mula's muse - to get indignant that Marley got a bum deal in the original story by Charles Dickens. Mr. Mula takes the reader on a stunning journey, creating a visual panorama through his words that enables the reader to see, to feel, to experience all that Marley does in his efforts to save Scrooge, and himself.

I own & absolutely love the hardcover novel version of this story, and was very disappointed it was out of print when I conceived the idea of giving it to family members as a Christmas gift.
So I was thrilled to see it available again as a paperback, and ordered 15 copies, without realizing the paperback is a play version (perhaps that it was published by Dramatists Play Service should have been a clue....) The dialogue in the play version is essentially the same as that in the novel, but it isn't nearly as enjoyable a read without Tom Mula's lyrical descriptions of Jacob Marley's surroundings, as well as the internal dialogue of the characters.
If you are buying the paperback to stage a production, I think it would be a very worthwhile endeavor. If you're looking for a novel to curl up with on a cold December evening, get one of the used hardcovers...if I haven't bought them all!
