Book Description

October 12, 2011
Marley was dead to begin with . . . These chillingly familiar words begin the classic Christmas tale of remorse and redemption in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Now R. William Bennett rewinds the story and focuses the spotlight on Scrooge s miserly business partner, Jacob T. Marley, who was allowed to return as a ghost to warn Scrooge away from his ill-fated path. Why was Marley allowed to return? And why hadn t he been given the same chance as Ebenezer Scrooge? Or had he? Written with a voice reminiscent of Dickens, Jacob T. Marley is to A Christmas Carol as the world-famous Wicked is to The Wizard of Oz as this masterfully crafted story teaches of choices, consequences, and of the power of accountability. It is sure to become a Christmas favorite.

4.0 out of 5 stars delightful holiday tale December 8, 2011
By Kimba88
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
My friend Dave, recommended Jacob T. Marley to me and I quickly added it to my wish-list. Then, a Goodreads group that I belong to chose it as their December Book of the Month. This was all the excuse I needed; so I purchased the eBook version of it. I am a huge fan of Dickens and was immediately intrigued by the synopsis. I am happy to report that this book was simply delightful. Bennett does a remarkable job of emanating Dickens and offers us a fresh tale about Scrooge's partner Marley.

Bennett explores the reasons behind Marley's visit to Ebenezer Scrooge and the events that occurred after Marley's death. If you are familiar with the tale A Christmas Carol, you will remember that Marley visited Scrooge bound in chains that he bore in life. We experience events in Marley's past that shaped him, how he met Scrooge and what occurred at the time of his death. The author does a wonderful job of capturing the images and sites of the period, while conveying a clear message of hope, redemption and the spirit of giving.

I highly recommend Jacob T. Marley, to fans of Charles Dickens and holiday classics. This was a fast, easy read, which delivers a wonderful message. A perfect addition to your holiday reading list and a charming gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Will be a NEW Christmas Classic! December 3, 2011
Format:Hardcover
In the beginning of Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol you read, "Marley was dead...to begin with." But...what really happened to Scrooge's old partner, Jacob T. Marley? Why was he allowed to come back and haunt Scrooge? Even more so, why was he so concerned that Scrooge meet a fate that was more pleasant than being weighed down eternally by chains of sin? In R. William Bennett's book, Jacob T. Marley he gives you Jacob's story, from his happy childhood to his miserable adulthood...and beyond. Running parallel to A Christmas Carol you can enjoy an understanding of perhaps why Marley made such condemning choices in life...and witness his chance for redemptive choices in the after-life. If you love the seasonal classic A Christmas Carol, you will enjoy this story! I really did (and I am NOT a fan of 'classics')

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection October 21, 2011
Format:Hardcover
Beautiful, heartwarnming, uplifting. In short, all that a book should be. I want to read this every Christmas. Thanks to Mr. Bennett for writing such a wonderful book.

Jacob Marley is a horrible, selfish, greedy man, who at the very last moment of his life realizes it. This book is about his afterlife and his strenuous efforts to redeem Ezeneezer Scrooge. Excellent.

Well written, thought provoking. Makes you question who or what impacts our view or outlook on life. How and whether we should let others influence how we go forward.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too similar to The Christmas Carol
I was hoping for more about Marley, merely mirrors The Christmas Carol from Marley's perspective. Story is really not that original.
