Demo review,

This review is from: Jacobs Dream Demo (Audio CD)
If you are familiar with this bands later releases you might not think the demo is the work of the same band. True, there are a few different musicians on the demo that dont appear on the later releases but, outside of the singing of David Taylor the writing and overall sound of the band is distinctly more progressive and agressive than on the later cds. It leads one to wonder how much influence these now awol players had in getting this band its record deal with Metalblade.
That said, this is a precious nugget of progressive thrash influenced metal that only lends a nod to the later power metal sound that encapsulates the band these days. Searing is a good word to describe the vocals and gut wrenching emotions are displayed on tracks such as Sara Williams, Jewel and Outer Realm. Heck through out nearly every track, the writers emotions are clearly worn on his sleeve! Musically I find them a cross between old metallica and helloween. The complexity and agression on tracks such as Viloent Truth, and Rape of Innocense of early Metallica but fused with the melodic vocals of helloween, somthing like Mike Howe era of Metal Church or Wrath Child America. Probably destined to be a lost gem in the sea of metal but if you are more than a casual listener of traditional metal you simply must have this in your collection. Its one of those cds that seems to tie together so many of your favorite elements but without beating them as a dead horse.
