Another Brilliant Worship Mix!,
By Shane (Lynden, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jacob's Dream (Audio CD)
This CD is very anointed. I love it and highly recommend it. Jason Upton invites you to join him before the throne to worship the King. Psalm 23, is one of my favorite songs. There is such power in singing/ praying the Word of God. It is so beautiful. Wait Upon the wind is a song for everyone. The revelation that we are to wait upon the Lord in all aspects of our lives. Jason received the song "Teach Me How To Pray" when praying for Indonesia; it is a powerful testimony to the power of prayer and the reality of the sacrifice that Christians are living in other parts of the world. I recommend this CD to anyone looking for profound and passionate worship. Enjoy!

Excellent,
This review is from: Jacob's Dream (Audio CD)
This cd would be aptly considered a cd for "contemplative prayer" times. The cruxt of Jason's message is the same as that of the mystics: growing in love and union with God. That's what comes through on this cd. It is gentle, soothing, but the message contained in it is enough to change your perspective on things.
I'm not lifting Jason up as a man. The strength of his music lies not in great ability (though he has it), the strength is in being honest with God.

My favorite album,

I cannot describe how much I love this album, and how much it speaks to me, especially the title song, "Jacob's Dream." With rhythm and music that moves you, and lyrics that must be inspired by God Himself, it's hard to find a comparable CD.
"I have given Jacob's generation the key of David, intimacy to open up the doorway to the nations, and release revelation, of intimacy, with me."

I absolutely love this cd. It is so deep. You can hear Jason's love for God through his worship. It is a very powerful cd. I've said it in my other reviews for Jason Upton, but he is so passionate with his music. The lyrics are very powerful and real. I love it. I recommend this to anyone.

Very Soothing and Melodic Music!,

This review is from: Jacob's Dream (Audio CD)
At the end of a hectic and stressful day, this is a great CD to pop into the player to help me relax my mind and focus on something other than work. It's also great background music for times of prayer. Even my 22 year old has fallen in love with several of the tracks and listens to them to help wind down. Some of Justin's other works like the Faith CD are a little too unstructured for me, but Jacob's Dream provided the right balance of worship and musical technique. I enjoyed the freestyle format of the entire CD, it reminded me of the early works of Kent Henry.

Not Live,

I accidentally bought this album thanks to one-click mp3 shopping. Not a big deal since I love Jason Upton's music and own several of his albums already. I was a little bit disappointed however that this was not a live album. Don't get me wrong, Psalm 23 is a beautiful song (as is the rest of the album), but it is songs that have been written and produced in a studio as stand-alone songs - which maybe you like, however I'm partial to more spontaneous, live sessions.
Maybe you can get an idea of what I like so you can understand my review better and make a decision on what you might or might not like: My favorite Upton albums are, Remember Open Up The Earth I love the songs "In the Beginning PI & II" Bottom Line: This is a good album, but gets very little play time during our worship and ministry times.

Powerful, prophetic music from one the best Christian songwriters,

Jacob's Dream is my favorite Upton album because of the amazing first track, Psalms 23. This song, like the rest of the tracks, is based on scripture. Psalm 23, sung with Upton's typical passion and nuance, comes alive and never fails to communicate something new from the Father each time I hear it. The music itself is simply beautiful, with a cello and a bass backing up the main guitar. This is perhaps Upton's most complete offering, a compelling mix of scripture, wonderfully sung lyrics, and classically excellent instrumentation.
"In the Silence," is probably the most convicting song in the collection. It could be anyone listening singing the song. "I'm tired of telling you I'll follow, when I know I really won't." Who among us hasn't felt that way at some point in their lives? "Jacob's Dream," the title track, is an exploration of Jacob's complex relationship with the Lord. Told from the perspective of Jesus, it outlines how He mercifully overcomes even our most difficult personalities and limitations. "Wait Upon the Wind," is a call to the Holy Spirit to come and do His work. Sung plaintively by Upton, this song is about 'rising up like the eagles," about drawing strength from the Lord and not our own strength. It is probably my least favorite track, a little too melancholy with it's minor key and wistfully sung lyrics. "Joshua," returns to the territory of "Jacob's Dream," and explores the story of Joshua. "There is not victory without hearts of purity," is such a wonderful line. This song is the most 'pop like' song on the album, and brings in a strong piano and string combo reminiscent of secular piano singer-songwriters like Ben Folds. "Teach Me to Pray," rounds out the 6 tracks, and is the most typical Upton song on the album, more of an intercessory pray in song form. It is touching and simple. "So reveal to these eyes the true heart of my Father today, oh teach me to pray." This is an Upton album that is as much about telling stories as it is a collection of prophetic songs. This is interesting new territory for Upton, and in no way lessens the quality of the worship contained in these six songs. A must have for every Upton fan. Jason Upton does not produce 'pop' Christian albums. His offerings are intended to be listened to with care and attention, not as background music. Set aside twenty or thirty minutes when you can listen to 3-4 tracks in a row and really let them sink in. You may be amazed at how much is communicated, not just from Upton, but from the Lord as well.

Among His Best,

Jason Upton's style is not for everyone, but his message is. This fabulous Christian worship artist is in a realm of his own; there's nothing "pop" about his flowing, often free-form lyrics. There's plenty of spontaneous instrumentation and song.
For anyone questioning when they'll like Jason Upton, I recommend looking up his lyrics on his website ([...]). There are also plenty of sound-bites there to browse through. |
