Born in Oxford on 26 January 1945, Jacqueline du Pré was the second child of Derek and pianist Iris du Pré. At four Jacqueline heard the sound of the cello on the radio and asked her mother for "one of those." She started with lessons from her mother before beginning study at the London Violoncello School at five. Before long she was winning local music competitions ... 5.0 out of 5 stars FIVE STARS ... but with a caveat June 3, 2012
Format:Audio CD
2007: EMI issued a 17 CD box, "Jacqueline DuPre: The Complete EMI Recordings" - Jacqueline Du Pré - The Complete EMI Recordings
2012: EMI issues a 17 CD box, "Jacqueline DuPre: The Complete EMI Recordings" - Jacqueline Du Pre: Complete EMI Recordings

Either box is a worthy tribute to the great cellist, but there is a slight, though annoying, difference between them.
CD 17 of the 2012 box has one track that was not in the 2007 box:

[8] J.S.Bach Adagio & Allegro from Sonata in D for Cello & Harpsichord, BWV 1028 (4:35) with Ronald Kinloch Anderson playing harpsichord.

This was recorded in July, 1962 and was part of DuPre's first LP for EMI (an abum of encores with assorted accompanists).
EMI forgot to include it in the 2007 box.
It was not "lost".
EMI just forgot it.

They have now corrected their mistake, which is a good thing, but it seems like an insult to those who bought the 2007 box.
EMI should have issued the new CD 17 as a single at a specially reduced price.
The new box does cost about half of what the old box cost, which makes it a bit less painful.

Other differences:

1) On CD 1, the Delius Concerto is now on 5 tracks, instead of the single track of 2007. Sound is unchanged.
2) There are five additional photographs of Jacqueline DuPre.
3) There is a two-page timeline of her life.

The article by Christopher Nupen that appeared in 2007 is reprinted in the new box.

Typographical Error: On CD 9, the Allegretto in E flat, Hess 48 is mis-identified as Hess 84.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid, as expected July 13, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
We were huge fans of du Pre's and welcomed this chance to get all of her EMI recordings. The reproduction is terrific, and we can replace several single CDs with this set plus get some recordings we did not have. Well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful set August 30, 2013
Format:Audio CD
I agree completely with the enthusiastic reviews here. This is an absolutely outstanding set, at an amazingly low price. Jacqueline du Pré was a truly remarkable musician, and her verve, thoughtfulness and sheer brilliance show in every one of these fine recordings. It is true that the notes are basic at best, but at this price for 17 superb CDs I don't think one can carp. Don't hesitate - it's a fantastic set.

Here's a (fairly complete) list of the works included:

Elgar: Cello Concerto in E minor, Op.85
Delius: Cello Concerto
Saint-Saens: Cello Concerto No.1 in A minor, Op.33
Saint-Saens: Carnaval des animaux - Le cynge
Dvorak: Cello Concerto in B minor, Op.104
Dvorak: Silent Woods Op.68
Schumann: Cello Concerto in A minor, Op.129
Schumann: Fantasiestucke, Op.73
Monn: Cello Concerto in G minor
Haydn: the two Cello Concertos
Beethoven: Variations, all the Piano Trios an all the Cello Sonatas (with Barenboim and Zukerman)
Brahms: the three Cello Sonatas
J S Bach: Cello Suites Nos.1&2; Viola da gamba Sonata No.2 in D;
Chopin: Cello Sonata in G minor, Op.65
Franck: Cello Sonata in A (arr. Delsart)
Handel: Sonata in G minor HWV287 (arr. J W Slatter)
F Couperin: Les Gouts-Reunis (1724) - Treizieme Concert a deux instruments a l'unisson

Lalo: Cello Concerto in D minor
Boccherini: Cello Concerto No.9 in B Flat G.482 (Cadenzas by Grützmacher)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent February 21, 2013

The 17CD is totally worth the money.
I haven't finished listening to it.

Some of the CDs is among the top ones.

And I can hear a little white noise with my HD800. It does not bother me much. The noise may go away with other headphones.

If you like Jacqueline Du Pre, buy this set.
