Review

There s something to be said for watching a cooking demonstration versus reading a recipe in a book. For one thing, we live in the television/computer world and most of us are used to learning from watching, not from reading. Plus, when demonstrating a dish, a chef will often share tips that would probably never make it into a cookbook...Three volumes of Jacques Pépin Fast Food My Way demonstrates how to create deliciously elegant meals in minutes. --American Fitness Magazine

This is Volume Two of the DVD collection to accompany the excellent PBS series Fast Food My Way by Jacques Pepin. It includes two DVDs, each showing detailed preparation of four complete meals. Each of the eight programs starts with something really simple which can be prepared in minutes with little or no cooking. One example is a pico de gallo salsa and another is Asian spring rolls stuffed with onions, sardines, and salad.

The other courses are all within reach of intermediate cooks and are sophisticated enough for entertaining. I'd enjoy eating pretty much everything he prepares here, but would be more likely to return to chicken breasts with garlic and parsley or red snapper with tomatoes and cream. He focuses on presentation as well as preparation, and many of the completed dishes would not be out of place in a nice French restaurant. You'll need a bigger budget for this set than you did for volume one since the ingredients for some of the meals on this disk can be a bit expensive. He makes his seviche with fresh scallops instead of fish and his beef stew with tenderloin. One recipe calls for salmon, another for lobster, and there is champagne on fruit for dessert.

Since this is only Volume Two, if you want the whole the series, you will need volumes one and three also. In that case, its a bit more economical to buy them as a set instead of individually. It's Jacques Pepin Fast Food My Way Set of 3 DVDs. The original series had twenty six episodes, but sadly even with all three DVD sets, you still only get twenty four. It's too bad that in order to offer three volumes with eight episodes each that they dropped two programs from the series.

I love watching Jacques Pepin and consider him an excellent chef. This review is about the audio - it's TERRIBLE. I could barely understand 50% of the show because it's so bad. Why release an excellent show without excellent audio? Monsieur Pepin is deserved an apology. The audio on "More Fast Food My Way" is perfect in comparison, and I'd recommend purchasing that DVD instead.

Pepin is a great Chef, I enjoyed watching and learning some techniques, but also appreciated supporting a great chef not en vogue with current crop of TV chefs. Watching him work, you can tell that he was very classically trained.

from a master, all shared with humour, whimsey and flawless technique, which manages to not be intimidating. My husband and I are both fans of this book and the TV series, and have tried these dishes with small personal variations.
Jaques shares his love of food and life like an old friend, and he is welcome into our home any time!Bon Appetit!

I love the simplicity of this cookbook without sacrificing quality. I do, however, wish the recipes were a little more flavorful. But I think it's only BECAUSE it's so simple and "fast food" that he cuts out frivolous spices and lots of ingredients.

The photos were beautiful and instructions great, like you're actually in the kitchen with him. He explains not only what to do, but why, which is very important for someone like me who is just out of college and at the beginning of my culinary journey.

I would recommend this to a friend.
