5.0 out of 5 stars Very Cool!!!!
I didn't think to review these until we lost the bottom plate to one of the cars during a battery change in the car and I called their 800 number. The lady who answered was a big help, and it was easy to get a replacement to us in the mail.

Disappointed one car had the forward button stuck and we couldn fix it. Since i ordered it and it did not come from amazon the 7 day time period was up to return it so i ate 47+ $ for a birthday gift that didnt work. This toy was unusable and expensive not to mention wasted money on lots of batteries. I would not buy this toy there is evidently no quality control

I didn't think to review these until we lost the bottom plate to one of the cars during a battery change in the car and I called their 800 number. The lady who answered was a big help, and it was easy to get a replacement to us in the mail.

My 12 year old bought a twin pack of these from the store a few days before Thanksgiving. Our friends and family loved playing with them while the grown-ups got the meal together and then later during clean up. The controls are easy to work, and the lasers are tricky to figure out for some at first, but it's very fun to learn how and outfox your opponent. After a little practice you'll be firing out of high speed, 180 turns.

When the car is first hit, the "shield levels" (lights on top of the cars) are lowered, something we can't make out is said on the car's speaker, and the vehicle stops movement for about 3 seconds. The second hit lowers the shield levels further, something else is said, and it jams the car movement again. The third hit wipes out the shield levels and the car speeds out of control emitting a crash sound before dying. Pretty cool really. The kids don't have to argue over who won what point and the people waiting for their turns know when the game is over.

There is a switch on the bottom of the cars that will put the car into autopilot if you are alone with two cars, but it's more for practice in that it won't fire on you.

The cars don't go fast enough to do much physical damage when they crash, and they seem to be holding up much better than the huge monster trucks that we've gotten in the past. Maybe it's because it's a tag more than a racing type set up.

The control range is about 15 to 20 feet. We had a small worry about the cars going out of control near the pool on Thanksgiving, but we just put a hose before the edge that the cars were only able to make it over once. Maybe twice. Will not work well, if at all, on grass or carpet. Excellent for a wood floor hallway or sidewalk.

The battery use is pretty good for an RC car. Each car takes 4 AA batteries that last a couple hours easy. Each remote takes a 9 volt. We use rechargeable batteries to save money in the long run. It gives both the kids and the cars a nice break.

We got these for my stepson for Christmas. He's a die hard Mustang fan and his dad is a Camaro guy so it was perfect. They are really fun and easy to use. My only complaint is they use up batteries - they take like 6 each and over Christmas we went through a LOT of batteries! He was racing them in the basement on concrete and crashing them into things and they performed great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun but be prepared to repair, February 6, 2011

We have had these machines for over a year and play with them regularly outside in a parking lot.
They are a lot of fun, and teach kids to think strategically at speed as they try to line their lasers on the backend of the other car.
Great fun to get them to skid out the rear end.

However there are some issues with them:
Parts will break off easily if you hit anything solid. Maybe that teaches kids something for when they have a real car.
There is only one speed in forward or reverse so you need a fairly large area to enjoy them.
The Camaro front bumper after an impact is sometimes pushed back and affects the steering.
The antennas on the controls fell off after the first 2 weeks. This was caused by repeatedly pushing the plastic tubes the keep the antennas upright back into the controller. We had to open up the controller and solder the wire back on and then tape the plastic tube to the controller so it would not move.
Control design is awkward. To relate steering to the direction the car is going in, we hold the controls sideways which is not so comfortable.
In the past three months:
The Mustang stopped moving. This was caused by the plastic gear on the motor shaft slipping. It took a couple of hours to repair. The car had to be dismantled to get to the motor, the gear on the motor shaft was removed and the inside of the plastic gear was groved up by a fine jeweler screwdriver. Then the motor shaft was coated with a thin layer of expoy and before it hardened the gear was slipped back on the shaft.
Firing button on one of the remotes needs to be replaced as it does not always work.

My son loved the item, but one of the cars stopped working properly after one day. Very good idea, bad execution. Customer service instructed me to return the item. No exchanges.
