5.0 out of 5 stars Jade
This is the newest Corey Hart album I have heard in several years. I have always been a big fan of Corey Hart and I'm glad I added this album to my collection. The style of Jade is very much typical of Corey Hart's early albums. He had a good style to begin with and stuck with it. All but one of the songs on the album are written by Corey. It's hard to believe that this is the same Corey Hart who charged on the scene with the hypnotic and aggressive "Sunglasses at Night." To his credit, his vocals have improved, and he possesses a clearer, not as abrasive, voice now that compliments the tunes assembled on "Jade." Unfortunately, the part is better than the whole! 4.0 out of 5 stars Corey Harts most cohesive collection.., January 10, 2002

I've listened to mostly everything Corey's put out
over the years, some ok, some very intense and
personal and always heartfelt, thats why I always
enjoyed his singles throughout the 80's. I was surfing
around music here on Amazon and came across Corey Hart
another 80's music fixture that became a videostar thanks to the folks from MTV land. Corey Hart is
more than what they sold him off as, a kind of pin-up
boy pop rocker. He knows how to write good pop songs, and
his ballads really worked but he knew what he wanted to do and this, his newest addition, as well as 1996(COREY HART) are by far his most
cohesive and enjoyable collections of his career. I had
completely lost track of him during the 90's? I
guess like me he is getting older (just about to
hit the big 40) and he is writing more about his
family and life. If radio and programmers in general
had listened to some of this they would have given
him another chance. Songs such as "Jade", "Without you",
the back to back beauties "Reconcile" and "Above the
trees" showcase a much more mature and reflective
adult singer-songwriter musician who has something important
to say and he still likes to rock out, he reminds me
at times of John Bon Jovi's singing style but Corey
is his own style for sure. This is a very enjoyable
addition to his collection, lets hope he gets back
in the studio soon. Corey is his own vision, not something thought up by the likes that create our illustrious
star maker machinery boy bands of the 90's who sing and dance
to fill the big guys pockets?? We've come a long way! ha

There is a duet on the album with Julie Masse called "La-Bas", which is absolutely wonderful. I would definitely recommend this album to Corey Hart fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Jade,"/A Precious Gem, October 22, 2000

I just bought this album, about 2 hours ago. Already, I'm playing this for a 3rd time!. While I have often admired and enjoyed Cory's music, I've never considered purchasing one of his solo albums, other than a compilation of his 1980's singles output. This is a very fine album, beautifully packaged with stunning photographs of Cory and includes lyrics to all tracks (He wrote 11 of the 12 tracks with the exception of "La Bas" penned by Jean Jacques Goldman). It's apparent that over the years, Cory has matured becoming a more provocative and emotive vocalist as well as personal songwriter. On this recent offering, there appears to be an intelligent continuity and flow that starts with the uptempo rocker "Let It Flow" that weaves from track to track until the poignant "Everytime You Smile" quietly closes the collection. Cory produced the album, which reflects his new found maturity and evolution as a visionary artist and songwriter...He appears more relaxed in his vocal style in contrast to his 1983 breakout "First Offense," when Hart posed as an 80's pinup "MTV" rocker and "hartthrob." The standout track on "Jade" is a duet with Julie Masse entitled "La-Bas," which beautifully blends, melts, caresses the soul. The sound is reminiscent of Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry, that would successfully serve as background music for any foreign love story...It is impeccably sung in French..."Jade" is a runaway triumph, a precious gem, in the catalog from the Canadian artist, who has never received the accolades he clearly deserves. It is worth seeking out.

The first six tracks are basically repetitive and soporific. I don't understand fellow reviewers' fascination with the French duet he does with Julie Masse.

Once track 7 kicks in, though, the rest of the CD is wonderful! "Jade" is a melodic and hypnotic tune; "Reconcile" is beautifully written and performed; "Above the Trees" is a stunning blend of melody and lyric, and has a truly ethereal feel; "Bittersweet" is a mid-tempo tune that is more reminiscent of Hart's earlier "Never Surrender", "Believing" is another up-tempo with some punch and style; and the elegantly beautiful "Every Time You Smile" is simply outstanding.

I wish Corey had looked more carefully at his first six tracks, and made this an outstanding "comeback" collection. As it is, it's worth a listen for the last six tracks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Corey Hart's Jade is Very Easy Listening, April 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Jade (Audio CD)
I am very glad that I purchased Corey Hart's CD Jade from amazon.com. I have been looking in music stores for the past six months, but then saw the CD on amazon.com and purchased it right away. I was very pleased to find a more mellow Corey Hart on this CD. It is clear how becoming a father has affected his life. I bought the CD for the French song "La-bas," a beautiful track that Corey sings with his wife Julie Masse, who is a French singer. I listened to both Jean-Jacques Goldman's version and Corey Hart's version on youtube. I preferred Corey's version. His version has something that Jean-Jacques version is missing, but I cannot describe exactly what it is. I also like "Break the Chain" and "Jade" from the CD. Unlike many artists today, Corey's songs do not all sound the same. Each song has a distinct feeling to it. In addition, he uses his voice in different ways on each track. I am glad that the words to the songs came with the CD. I am trying to learn the lyrics to "La-bas." I am having a great time since it brings me back to my college days when I was learning French. Nice job, Corey!

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this CD now!!!, February 5, 2007

I love this album. It's one of his best! Break the Chain is one of my favorites of his career, and also one of my favorite of any singer. I have no idea what he's saying in La Bas, but that one is in my top 10 too. Everytime You Smile is a beautiful song from a father to his child. It's full of so much promise and emotion and heart (no pun intended). That song alone is worth the price of this album. Corey Hart manages to capture emotions in his lyrics like nobody else and this album adds a new maturity to the level of emotion that he conveys. If you like his stuff, you should have this album. Period. The end. So stop reading this and just buy it already.

Corey Hart could easily find a niche with many of these
well crafted songs. Although he's mellowed some as a new dad
he still can create great pop songs, he is one romantic writer
he more than surprised me with this set. It seems some reviewers
just want Mr. Hart to relive his glory days, he IS a songwriter,
musican and producer and I'm glad he's stretching out and
making some beautiful music that has something positive to say.

2.0 out of 5 stars Jaded..., January 2, 2003

I know, one wishes for it to never happen, but sooner or later it always does...
Eventually Corey let me down..
This album by Corey is the one i really cannot relate to.
The lyrics are way too obscure, the musical production is just a mess...
He sounds jaded, tired...seems not even enjoying his music talent anymore.
There are a couple oftracks that save the day of course, otherwise i would have brought this back to the store rightaway...
LA-BAS is a nice duet written and sung in french by Corey and new wifey Julie Masse, written and produced by the same team behind Celine Dion's most successful french tunes.
SO VISIBLE (EASY TO MISS) is a fun track, reminds me of SPOT YOU IN A COALMINE.
The rest...well, better luck next time Corey!
