a very smooth, not jagged cd,
By A Customer
This review is from: Jagged Era (Audio CD)
the first jagged edge song I heard happened to be "keys to the range" off their second album. It got to me, so I picked up the cd. loving it so much, I picked up their debut album A Jagged Era without ever hearing a single song off it. and I love it as much.To me, jagged edge reminds me of jodeci, the r&b group that was around back in the early 90's. J.E.'s music, J.E.'s style, sounds like it could have came from jodeci. and that's not a bad thing at all. favorites of mine are "I gotta be","wednesday lover", and "the rest of our lives". these songs get to me everytime I hear them. I think about that special someone and smile; songs that can do that are rare and hard in these times of booty shaking, thong wearing music that populate the airwaves. anyone who loves r&b will be very happy with this purchase. give it a listen, sing along with it if you want. it'll leave you feeling satisfied.

Who Can Top Jagged Edge,

I bought this cd a long while ago and it still gets major airplay. When I first heard this group and their single "Gotta Be" I was speechless because the song and their vocals were right on time. We needed a good male group and they were the ones because years later they are still standing strong and no one can top them. Sorry young ladies!!! B2K is not even close. This cd is really good. My favorites are.......Addicted to your Love, I Gotta Be, Wednesday Lover and Funny How. One Love.

Snoozeville For Me,
This review is from: Jagged Era (Audio CD)
Jagged Edge came out in a big way with A Jagged Era. The only reason I bought this was for the one song that came out which was "I Gotta Be". Initially, I was not impressed with this album because it showed no roundness of any sort. Bottom line-
these guys could sing you to your grave if you let them. I'm not hating, these brothas can saaaaaaaaang, but give me some variety. They only had one fast tune on this whole cd. I like variety and they did not provide me with that. Singing is off da hook, productions are mediocre and that plummets my stars down to one. I like to feel sexy and comfortable, not sleepy. Grade: F

Tha fantastic 4,
A Kid's Review

This is one of the best singing albums I have ever heard, I can't get the song " Addicted to your love" out of my head, I think i'm addicted to that song. I have two other favorites on this album. First of all, I have to say that " I gotta be" is the best song on this album, and my other favorite is the song "Wednesday Lover", I just like the way this song makes me happy. I don't have the CD, but my older and younger brothers both have it, maybe I might buy it. The thing I like about Jagged Edge is that they work very well together, and that makes them the " Fantastic 4".

There is a smooth side to 'Jagged Edge',

'JE Era' is definitely on the romantic tip and boasts production from super-producer Jermaine Durpi, as well as a few rap cameos. This album shows off the guys' harmonies and writting skills as well. The album features nice slow jams, "Wednesday Lover", the Marvin Gaye remake, "Slow Motion" and the sleeper hit "Gotta Be". It also has a few dance tracks like the hit "The Way You Talk" and "I'll Be There", featuring rapper Busta Rhymes. The songs do seem to be similar to each other in some ways, but still doesn't stop this album from being platinum-quality work.

"A Jagged Era",
By Mikeisha Best (Mitchellville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews

Jermaine Dupri introduced us to Jagged Edge in 1998. Their debut, "A Jagged Era" had a decent amount of success, propelled by their first and only single from this album, the amazing track, "Gotta Be." After this album, they become much more popular with this like "Promise", "Let's Get Married", "Where the Party At" and "What's it Like?" They were out around the same time as Dru Hill and 112, and, personally, I preferred Dru Hill and 112 over them, but these gentlemen are remotely talented nonetheless. They each have good singing voices, but their best attribute is definitely their unified harmony.
This album is ten tracks long; it's definitely just a decent disc. There is no groundbreaking material, no truly profound lyrics and Jermaine Dupri does nothing new as far as the production is concerned. However, there are a few good moments that may compel you to press the rewind button. In short, the best songs here are "Gotta Be", "Funny How" and "The Rest of our Lives." Each of these songs are about love and the men of Jagged Edge do a great job with their vocal synchronicity. Many people who are in love can relate to the words in "Gotta Be." This song is just a testament to your lover that you just have to be the one they love. It's pretty deep, especially if you have been in love. This is one of their best songs to date. "Funny How" has great melody from beginning to end. The guitar and drum really compliment each other here, also. "Addicted to Your Love" sounds a little like Erykah Badu's hit, "Bag Lady", but this song came out first, so apparently Badu has been listening to her share of Jagged Edge CDs. This song is about a woman who makes a man feel so great that he is simply addicted to her. Jagged Edge needs to work on making their albums better. They need less filler. I recommend this album to fans of the group, but to hear JE at their best, invest in "Jagged Little Thrill." Neither are masterpieces, but that album has something for all R&B fans. 3 stars. Mikeisha's Top 5 "Gotta Be" "Funny How" "The Rest of our Lives" "The Way That You Talk" "Slow Motion"

I wasn't initally impressed with Jagged Edge and wrote them off as another Jodeci/Dru Hill clon. Then in the summer of 1998 I heard the ballad I Gotta Be. I rushed out to get in the CD and was pleasently surpised. The first five tracks are ballads and all of them are of five star quality. The standouts though Funny How (which could serve as the first part in a trilogy of break up songs included on the first three JE CD's, the other two True Man and Goodbye are from JE Heartbreak and Jagged Little Thrill respectively). Wednesay Lover has an old school feel to it. The ballads make this CD work and if you've never heard it you should check it out.

I forgot how good this CD was good until I popped it into the CD player recently. These guys had nice songs and slow ballards. This guys did great covers with songs like Never Can Say Goodbye and Wednesday Love. They had vocal a mix between BoysIIMen and Stevie Wonder with a sexier/stylish like attitude.

A Jagged Era,

I remember this album when I was in the 5th grade. It was bumpin' and I love the entire album. A JAGGED ERA succeeds in bringing on a contemporary mix of meaningful grooves and soi-ne of the most truly inspired, moving vocals to grace the R&B world in years. They describe their music a mixture between street hip-hop and gospel-type grooves. This album has been certified Gold. Remember, this was 1998. This album was released the same day when Destiny's Child released their debut album as well.
