This review is from: Jaguar: The Engineering Story (Hardcover)
An interesting book but one that I expected to be much better. Jeff Daniels purports to take a new slant on the history of the Jaguar marque by studying its 'product engineering'. Whatever that may be, it is represented in this book by a fairly random mix of technical detail, supply chain background, a bit on marketing pressures and some mention of personalities in the Jaguar hierarchy.

I am an enthusiast of 1960s Jaguars and found the book offered nothing much new on the engineering of the raft of different models made in that era. Indeed, it skips very lightly over some ... for example, the 420 is dismissed as a "stop gap" with no mention of the modern engineering features that separated it from the original S Type and pointed the way to the XJ6. Background on post XJ6 models was, however, new to me and seemed a much more worthwhile read. Nevertheless, the author's four days spent in the Jaguar archives do not seem to have been quite enough to make this book the rich resource it could have been.
