Book Description

★★★★★ "THE JAGUAR LEGACY is packed with romantic comedy, intrigue, danger, mystery, betrayal, with a good dollop of the supernatural to glue it together."
★★★★★ "Hilarious banter, scorching sexual tension, gripping suspense, mysticism -- THE JAGUAR LEGACY has it all! Page-turning paranormal romance as hot and steamy as the jungle setting."
★★★★★"Outstanding and Powerful! THE JAGUAR LEGACY by Maureen Fisher had me hooked from the first word to the last. Fisher has woven ancient mysteries, past lives, and pure evil, into a story that left me begging for more.

With her reputation in tatters, acclaimed journalist Charley Underhill invades a remote archaeological dig, determined to unravel rumors of an ancient curse. If it means avoiding hairy, hungry predators or lying to a charismatic archaeologist with a sexy Scottish accent, brilliant scientific mind, and gaudy Hawaiian shirts, she's up for the challenge.

Hell-bent on guarding the secret of his latest discovery, a ruined Olmec city hidden deep in the Mexican jungle, Dr. Alistair Kincaid fears a premature press leak will destroy his last chance at success. He won’t let a snoopy reporter, even one with a quirky sense of humor, smarts, and a heartwarming smile, ruin his career. Or steal his heart.

But ancient danger stalks the jungle on velvet paws. Secrets collide as strands from past lives intertwine with the present, drawing Charley and Kincaid into a legacy of danger and murder, shape-shifting and mysticism, romance and redemption. Is history doomed to repeat itself or is a new path possible?

“An intricately woven tale of mystery, romance and the supernatural … definitely a keeper!”
“A thrilling page turner and a unique romance.”
"Reincarnation, redemption, and romance, oh my!"

EXCERPT

Kincaid took care to hide his elation. She'd practically admitted to having feelings for him. He lowered his voice to what he hoped was an enticing rumble. “We can take it slowly, one day at a time.”

“That won’t make the least bit of difference.”

This wasn’t going the way he’d planned, but it was too late to back off now. “I know you don’t trust men, but I promise I will never lie to you.”

Charley’s voice quivered. “I’m not ready for this. Everything’s moving too fast.” She turned her back on him.

“I’ll make you a deal.” He swung her around to face him and clasped her hand in both of his. “I’ve never forced myself on a woman and I don’t intend to start now. I promise I’ll try to keep my hands to myself. The next move will be up to you. I won’t touch you, well, unless I forget, until you tell me you’re ready. Willing and eager would be good too.”

Her eyes flickered, then widened in surprise. "Clever. You’re putting me in the driver’s seat.”

He didn’t feel so clever right now. “Aye. Another of my many virtues,” he said, wishing he could retract his promise.

“Don’t hold your breath waiting for me to change my mind,” she warned with a steely smile.

He hid the queasy feeling behind a forced grin. What had he been thinking? He should have moved in for the kill when he’d sensed that, with a wee bit more convincing on his part, she'd have conceded defeat.

“This doesn’t mean I’m giving up without a fight.” He furrowed his brow to emphasize his next words. “I intend to use my killer wit and fatal charm in every devious manner known to man and beast to convince you to change your mind.”

“Suit yourself.” She clamped her mouth shut in a stubborn line and set off down the dark path toward camp.

About the Author

Born in Scotland, Maureen immigrated to Canada at the age of seven. A University of Toronto graduate, she convinced the federal government to hire a Fine Arts specialist as a computer programmer. Three years later, Maureen graduated again, this time to full-time homemaker and mom, raising two wonderful sons. Plunging back into the business world, she and her second husband started a management consulting company. This marriage survived because she and her husband pledged never to work on the same project again. Ever. After a century in the consulting world, Maureen grew weary of wearing snappy power suits, squeezing into panty hose, and fighting rush hour traffic. She made a life-changing decision. She wanted to write books. Not dry, boring, technical treatises, but fresh, funny romantic suspense novels. Between exotic trips, Maureen and her husband live in Ottawa where she volunteers for an addiction family program, plays bridge, and slaves over her computer to improve her writing skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Thrilling Page Turner and a Unique Romance September 20, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just finished reading the Jaguar Legacy. Not normally a fan of the paranormal books, I found it easy to suspend disbelief while reading this book. Great, well-rounded and well developed characters kept me involved throughout. I fell in love with Kincaid and Charley from the start. And appropriately hated Leila. Not a boring page in the entire thing (or do we say "screen" instead of "page" now?) A real page turner. I happily recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very entertaining read September 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't read a whole lot of paranormal romance, but I was glad I read The Jaguar Legacy. It's well-written and well-plotted, with an entertaining romance between an intrepid reporter and a dashing archaeologist. Dr. Alistair Kincaid is on the verge of one of the biggest archaeological finds of the century, and reporter Charley Underhill wants to leak the story before Alistair is ready for his findings to be released. They clash, of course, and their exchanges are all the more heated because they are so strongly attracted to each other.

An ancient evil haunts the dig, which is located deep in the jungles of Mexico. Charley is inexorably drawn in by these evil forces, when she discovers that her anxiety attacks are really flashbacks to her former life as a priestess of the ruined civilization uncovered by Alistair's work. As she struggles to understand what is happening to her, she realizes that she must also protect Alistair from the supernatural forces that haunt the site.

Charley and Alistair are very engaging and believable characters. They are both independent and strong, but have enough real vulnerability to make them sympathetic to the reader. They must struggle to find their happiness, and when they do it is very satisfying.

The writing is fresh, the dialogue is snappy, and the exotic location adds spice to the romance. The Jaguar Legacy is a welcome departure from a lot of the formulaic paranormals currently on the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Smashing Read for All September 15, 2011

The Jaguar Legacy has something for everybody; action, love, reincarnation, sex and an ending that pulls it all together but leaves the door open for a sequel which I hope is forthcoming.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Jaguar Legacy September 2, 2007
By MNix
Format:Paperback
Charley Underhill is an investigative journalist trying to get the inside scoop on Dr. Alistair Kincaid's archeological dig. Charlie needs the money the article will provide to help get treatment for her mother. When she finds Kincaid though, the extremely handsome Scotsman wants her gone, and fast.

Kincaid has his hands full with two beautiful women and he's stuck with them for a while, but when his attraction to Charlie gets too strong to ignore, he decides he wants her to stay a little longer.

Charlie suffers from panic attacks that seem more like memories. As she starts to figure them out, she discovers something pretty unbelievable about herself. There is a dangerous connection between Charlie and the dig site, and it's growing greater by the minute.

In The Jaguar Legacy , the romance is terrific and the jaguar legacy is intriguing. I love Kincaid and Charlie together. Aside from a part of the story that was left unfinished, The Jaguar Legacy is very good and it has great characterization as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific paranormal romantic suspense thriller June 2, 2007
Format:Paperback
Journalist Charley Underhill's career looked promising until the panic attacks began that devastated her and destroyed her reputation as a serious investigative reporter. Seeing an opportunity to rebound and restore her name, Charley "joins Dr. Alistair Kincaid's Olmec archeological dig in Mexico. There she is "greeted by the Ice Queen who warns her to beware of jaguars as reported by the New York Times, who never prints anything not fit to print.

Alistair also wants to save his reputation with this dig so he is unhappy with a snoop arriving at the remote locale although he admits to himself he is attracted to her. However, he has bigger problems than some nuisance reporter he desires, as problems from unknown adversaries impact the methodical work to uncover Olmec artifacts. As they fall in love, Charley begins to believe her panic attacks are memories of a past life warning her that she and Alistair are in danger just like they were in a previous lifetime.

THE JAGUAR LEGACY is a terrific paranormal romantic suspense thriller starring two likable lead protagonists. Charley and Alistair share in common a deep attraction from the first moment they see each other, a gut suspicion of one another, an apparent past, and a need to prove worthy initially to their respective peers, but soon to each other. Sub-genre fans will gain immense delight from this tale as the audience will wonder reincarnation, native occult mysticism, or human enemies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A unique story August 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Jaguar Legacy is very different from other paranormal romances I've read. Everything is unique in this hot love story--the setting, an archaeological dig in the jungles of Mexico, mysticism, reincarnation, shapeshifters--this story has it all. Alistair and Charley are engaging characters. I loved their banter and I loved how independent Charley is. They both have issues and help each other resolve them. I read this quickly because the action is non-stop. I liked it so much I immediately bought another book by this author.

More About the Author

I write sassy romance with hot heroes, kick-ass heroines, tons of humor & an animal or two.

After a century in the consulting world, I grew weary of wearing snappy power suits, squeezing into panty hose, and fighting rush hour traffic. I made a life-changing decision. I wanted to write books. Not dry, boring, technical treatises, but fresh, funny romantic suspense novels. How hard could it be? Thousands of authors did it every year.

Always an over-achiever, I quit my day job, attended a one-week seminar on writing a novel, read a couple of how-to books, joined Romance Writers of America, and plunged right in. Learning can be a humbling experience. After countless workshops, six-re-writes, twenty-five rejections, several tons of chocolate, and two first-prize wins, I sold my first book. Now self-published, I have a third book underway,

I'm a voracious reader, volunteer for an addiction family counseling program, bridge player, yoga enthusiast, seeker of personal and spiritual growth, and infrequent gourmet cook. My husband and I love to hike, bicycle, and travel. I've swum with sharks in the Galapagos, walked with Bushmen in the Serengeti, sampled lamb criadillas (don't ask) in Iguazu Falls, snorkeled on the Great Barrier Reef, descended into an Austrian salt mine, watched the sun rise over Machu Picchu, and bounced from Johannesburg to Cape Town on a bus called 'Marula'.

A quote about my books: "Maureen combines action, adventure, romance, mystery, and an often LOL sense of humor in her page-turning novels. They are the perfect additions to your electronic libraries, like da rum and da coconut in your pina coladas."
