As Jimmy pursues a beautiful but deadly cartel boss, he is increasingly attracted to her and helplessly drawn into a conflicting world of unrepentant violence and mystical beauty. When he is forced to confront the shadowy boundary between good and evil, a daughter he has never known is cast into harm’s way.
With a backdrop of the enchanting southwest desert, a land of long kept secrets and supernatural lore, a cast of off-beat, intriguing characters fuel a fast-moving saga of mystery and romance.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could have been a great story April 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The first few pages really drew me in with deftly built suspense and a great sense of location. Besides a ridiculous lack of basic proofreading (punctuation, misused words, etc.),the author does a decent job with narrative. The main problems are two. First, he assumes that his readers are pretty slow witted and uninformed and need the simplest things spelled out ad nauseum. Second, this is some of the clunkiest dialogue ever. Who besides a sleazy salesman repeats the name of the person to whom they're speaking in every other sentence? I started to wonder if the author was afraid I'd forget who the participants were. And again, the dizzying misuse of quote marks and commas was distracting. This could have been a really fun story with the help of an experienced editor and proofreader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Miss This One October 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The Jaguar Queen is an excellent tale with a number of twists that make it an exciting read. Characters are well developed and the authror has a style that is pleasing and captures interest and keeps the yarn worth attention. Descriptions are comlete and carry a vivid imprint to the reader....something many authors miss. Jim Wharton knows how to capture a story line and draws the reader into the plot with expectation and like O'Henry, provides a surprise moment. An excellent adventure read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good spooky story March 4, 2014

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This tale is set in modern day Arizona. Focus on drug trafficking and cartels cause one to ponder more deeply the root cause of the drug plague in America. insinuations of shape shifting and time travel add flavor to the story. A bit gory at times

More About the Author

I was born in St. Louis, Missouri and trace my lineage to the Revolutionary War and Valley Forge. That family history and two other unique experiences enhanced my interest in writing. The first was leaving home at fourteen and working three years as a page in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. The second was spending four years in the military, one of which was in the Viet Nam War where I attained the rank of Captain. My background as an Adjunct Professor of Economics and Marketing combined with experience in aviation and archaeology and an extensive study of history provide a platform from which I draw material. I attended Capitol Page School in the Library of Congress and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. My uncle, the American poet Will Wharton, was also an influence. I married my childhood sweetheart, Carol Jo Simon, whom I loved before we ever met.
