5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for the Jag library, November 6, 2008

This review is from: Jaguar E-Type Collector's Guide (Hardcover)
While no single book has all there is to know about the E-Type. Each one makes its contribution.
Paul Skilleter does a fine job of introducing you to the E-type, giving unique historical info (along with photographics of the monocoque's development.) He points out the salient differences in each series, and even tackles the job of providing information assiting the owner with maintaining an E-Type. Skilleter covers a lot of ground in this compact, very readable book.
A far better distillation of E-type info than many of the coffee table books that attempt tackle the entire Jaguar line.

4.0 out of 5 stars A design paragon that still entrances after nearly 50 years, February 11, 2008

Before single-model auto histories became commonplace, this lovely little book about only the E-type Jaguar was somewhat of a pioneer.

Although there is probably a bit too much detail for someone who is not a totally dedicated fan of this marque, this little book traces in loving detail the development of the E-Type Jaguar. surely one of the greatest sports car designs in history, from its origins beginning with the revolutionary XK-120 introduced by Jaguar in 1948, up to the E-Types immediate predecessor, the XK-SS, a fantastic sports car which saw only a very limited production due to a disastrous fire at the Jaguar plant. Surviving XK-SS cars are not worth one million dollars or more. In fact, well-maintained examples of the relatively lowly XKE, which was introduced in 1961 at a price of under $4,000, now are fetching upwards of $100,000.

There are a ton of photos but the quality of many of them leaves something to be desired and gives this book a somewhat amateurish quality. But, as I said, if you are enthralled by this icon of automotive design, you will want this book.
