An excellent book for the restorer .,
By A Customer
This review is from: Jaguar E-Type: 6 & 12 Cylinder Restoration Guide (Authenic Restoration Guide) (Paperback)
This book describes in detail the Series 2 and Series 3 E-type changes during production and lists serial number changes for the restorer who must know exactly the equipment on his/her vehicle. The black/white photographs are very detailed, and a handy reference. As always though, the exact serial number model of a specific change can be in doubt, so a good cross-reference guide on Series 3 is"Jaguar V-12 E-Type: A Guide to Authenticity" by Richard T. Russ with color photographs and details on the plating and color of various nuts, bolts, and equipment. The Restoration Guide, in my opinion, is an excellent companion to your sevice manual and parts catalogue.

I own a Series 1 2+2 XKE. I bought this book back when it was $30 or so. I don't understand the recent, extreme pricing of this book. It has some handy photos if you are concerned with a concours restoration. But don't buy it expecting it to tell you how to restore your Jaguar! Its more of an index, or catalog of bits that do focus on the changes that occured during the car's development.
The title is a bit misleading. There are probably a few details here, that aren't in other books. I thought the Colin Ford restoration book was much more practical (and still gave essential details). IMO, worth $35 not $135-

This book is not what it sounded like to me, when I bought it. If you are planning to restore a Jaguar E-Type, this book won't show you how to restore it only tells you what to restore to. It is a list of what changes occurred at what serial no on the various models over time.
I will most likely use it as a reference once I find my E-Type and once it is disassembled and repaired and ready to be brought back together. I will need to have other reference and instructional materials to do that work.

Essential,
This review is from: Jaguar E-Type: 6 & 12 Cylinder Restoration Guide (Authenic Restoration Guide) (Paperback)
This book is and essential companion to any parts manuals, service manuals, or "How to" manuals for a first class XKE restoration. It has been around for many years and has yet to be tagged with an error. A must-have for any XKE owner.

Not exactly a restoration guide...,

A bit disapointed. This book is more a "genuine guide"
If you need to know if the parts are correct for you car this is the book, if you need to know how to put them back in place in the right order, than forget it, this is definitely not the book you're looking for. |
