Nice, complete kit - but not ideal for SRAM,
By Bill (Chicago) - See all my reviews

The housings and cables offered in the kit are high quality, and color choice is kind of a cool feature as well. The housing is compressionless, and one thing I especially liked about it is the brake housing is similar in design to standard derailluer cable housing, meaning it's made from longitudinal strands instead of hard coiled flat strands like you see in other brake cable housings. This makes cutting it easier since you don't have to grind flush or otherwise manipulate the brake housing. I would have given this 5 stars, except that the jagwire "POP" ferrules don't work with SRAM brakes very well. I can see them being awesome for shimano brakes, where normally a ferrule doesn't fit into the barrel adjuster, but on SRAM, where the adjuster is wider and made to fit a ferrule already, they actually make the connection less secure rather than more. So, I had to reuse my SRAM ferrules, but other than that, the cables and housing work great, and came with everything you need.

Excellent Replacement for Shimano Cables,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Jagwire Racer DIY Brake and Derailleur K (Misc.)
These work as well as the Shimano Dura Ace shifter cables. Brake cables have a little more firm feel to them than the Shimano's which makes braking easier to modulate. Ferrules with an o-ring seal, frame proctectors for the outer cable casing and rubber cable grommets are also included which is a nice bonus. Overall I'd say these are a better choice than the stock Shimano cable set and less expensive too.

Great cable + Housing,
By D Horn (DUBLIN, CA, US) - See all my reviews

This cable set is amazing. The brake housing is very stiff (Kevlar reinforced). Little difficult to cut as a result, make sure you have good sharp cable cutters with good leverage. Once installed, the brake feel is very solid and reassuring.
Similarly, the gear cable set is also very solid. Both brake action and gear shift so far have proved very precise and solid. Very well made, the kit has everything you'll need for a complete install. This was a new bike build for me, so I can't give like for like comparison, but would definitely use Jagwire again on a bike.

Beautiful, well made, but too short,
By Mikie (Sweden) - See all my reviews

These are wonderful in many ways, but I had one problem that I think everyone should be aware of:
If your rear brake cable is fully enclosed by the outer cable, as mine is, and you have a large-ish frame, you may find there is not enough outer cabling. I had this problem, and as Jagwire were unwilling to assist me in any way, the only solution was to purchase a whole second set. I have only deducted 1 star for that, but I still think it is quite a serious problem, they could easily have added a few more inches of cable. (They say they will do so in 2012!!!)

Not the brake ferrules I needed.,

I got this for my 2006 Fuji Touring after raising the handlebars (which turned into a complete overhaul for the heck of it). The shift cables went in, easy as pie, but the provided "POP" ferrules for the brakes aren't what I needed- They're very narrow, and I think meant for linear-pull brakes, which wasn't clear to me when reading the description, though now I notice another reviewer mentioned it (my bad). I would have bought some of the standard 5mm ferrules, but my bike shop doesn't carry Jagwire, and they're only available on Amazon in large packages. Instead I'm just going to use the generic 5mm ones from my bike shop. Otherwise, they're nice and smooth, and I love that I could get a cool color! Additionally, if you're using a cross/interrupter brake setup, you'll need to cut the brake cables and install a second set of ferrules.

Not enough cable, too short,

Get some brake and/or derailleur cable from your local bike shop, NOT Jagwire.Costs too much for what you get. Jagwire does not give you the proper length ... way too short. If they would add about another foot or so, it would be worth it.

I love these and see no difference between these and Gore Rid-On cables, which cost twice as much. Everything you need for a perfect install. A warning, if you have full internal cable housing you NEED to get the EXTRA LONG version otherwise they will not be long enough. The cable will, just not the housing. Jagwire did send me cable free, but had to wait.

Great product comes with everything you need, short of a cable tool. Cables, housing, ferrules, donuts, and crimps. Shifts smooth, works like it's supposed to.

Great Product, not for Disc Brakes (yet),

See below for the -1 star. This kit is great. Solid wires, and the colors are great. Black cables, and bright red housing. Really nice if you want a specific look for your bike. The components work great as well. Riding for daily 10 mile commute in the Seattle rain for about a month with them.I accidentally bought this kit (because it was a kit) instead of 2 individual ripcords for my road bike that I converted to disc brakes. The cables nor the housings are not long enough to lace a 58cm road bike with discs. However I laced the front to back and contacted Jagwire who was good enough to send me another set of cables to finish the job correctly. They say they will be releasing this kit for discs in 2012.

This kit really makes re-cabling your bicycle easy. It comes with everything you need to cable both brakes and both derailleurs/shifters. The housing appears to be of good, solid quality and the cables themselves appear to have a thin layer of lubrication that helps the cables work better.
I used these to cable a brand new bicycle and was really impressed by well the controls work and even after 500 miles there has been minimal cable stretch, requiring virtually no readjustment to keep the bike tuned. |
