Jahaamericana is an easy listening record including some tracks worthy a big scene.
J Shogren contributes with a nice Americana sound imbued by country-blues. Shogren's voice has a lot of charisma as it is both mature and honest, a mix between the voices of John Prine and John Hiatt. The record starts with the outstanding "Don't worry" and the almost as good "Lovers lane boogie" both having a mixed sound of country-blues-boogie-rock. "Don't worry starts with a drum beat and an acoustic guitar, and then evolves into a really cool and tight boogie sound. The third track "It's all good" is a hum along song reminding about the pub-rockers Brinsley Schwarz. With the acoustic ballad "Me and Genghis Khan" J Shogren proves his talent as a singer and songwriter. The track has a heartfelt sound resembling Steve Earle's "Christmas in Washington". Still acoustic, Shogren picks up the tempo with "As good as I have been to you" and the folk singing Bob Dylan inspired "Opposite". The blues-rock tunes in "Thunderstorm" and "Shuffletown" are driven by heavy guitars. In "outsider" the heartfelt sound is back accompanied by an accordion and a sad violin. The record then closes with the instrumental "Helgagatan" and the pop-influenced "Wooden saints". To close this review, J Shogren will not be able to remain invisible for long, Jahaamericana is simply too good. I am glad I have it, and it always lifts my spirit every time I turn up the volume on "Don't worry".
