Great rare Louisiana style blues,
By Scott R. Simpson (Springfield, Il. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jailhouse Blues (Audio CD)
Largely forgotten today, "Cryin" Sam Collins tends to be the best exponent of the blues which developed as a possible hybrid of both Mississippi delta and Texas blues styles. His rich, ringing timbre of a voice reminiscent of Blind Lemon Jefferson packs the power and emotion of a midnight locomotive. This disc or the Document collection should serve as a fundemental building block of any serious blues collection. If "I Want to be Like Jesus in my Heart" dosen't move you...nothing will. Listen to it on a cloudy winter day.

Just a helpful hint,
By Josh Z. Bonder "a sound painter" (Toronto) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jailhouse Blues (Audio CD)
Just a helpful hint to potential buyers: Sam Collins is incredible, and whichever disc you purchase by him, you're sure to be moved and satisfied. However, the release by Document records (which I have yet to see on Amazon, but can be obtained via the Document website), is the disc I have, and features the complete recordings (which this disc does not).
Get what you can by this incredible blues artist, but if you have a choice, the Document release is more complete. Enjoy! |
