4.0 out of 5 stars more than just scenery
this is a twisted tale of love and death, bloody violence and action from the beginning to the end and if you like anything Indo then it gives you a view of the streets of Jakarta in the early 1980s. So much of Indonesian art and music never make it to the states and I personally was thrilled to see this movie. oh and to all the guys out there the main actress is a real...

3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD SCENERY
The movie theme is old and out-dated, but then again so is the movie. The story is bland, the love interests boring, and the sound very poor. However, the scenery and costumes were colorful and interesting, and the animals fun to watch. This movie should probably be placed at the bottom of movies to re-watch, or relegated to the college class entitled "The History...

Jakarta has good visual as well as good sound. This a fast paced action picture of nonstop action. Loaded with fights, gun battles, car chases and even a little romance along the way. Anyone who likes "take-me-for-a-ride" movies is sure to love this one.

While most will review this as B-movie junk, I tend to differ. I remember seeing this film around 1990 or so on cable and I was instantly caught up in it. I think what I liked most about the film is the theme of looking for lost love. The lead character is played by "Sex In The City's " Chris Noth. He plays a government agent sent to infiltrate a Asian Crime Syndicate. While in Indonesia, Jakarta to be exact, hence the title, he is also in search of an old flame who was involved with this sydicate. Suzee Pai, you might remember her from " Big Trouble In Little China" as the Chinese girl with green eyes kidnaped along with " Sex In The City's" Kim Cattral. There is a little espionage and a few tense moments. But what I think attracted me to this film in the first place is the location. You get to see Jakarta in all it's glory or lack thereof. Ancient cultures and beliefs always intrigued me. I often try to find a balance in these genre films. I like the locations and Suzee Pai is just fine as the femme fatale. Sure the acting is not Oscar caliber but sometimes it's nice just to watch a movie that doesn't take itself to seriously. Overall I would recommend this film to die-hard B-movie fans who like exotic locations and beautiful women.
