I guess I'm the odd man out. This had the makings of a very good story but I'm at about 1/3 of the way through and I cannot read it anymore. The heroine is a victim of horrible domestic violence. Her husband has repeatedly abused her, the final straw being when he brutally beat, sexually assaulted, and raped her - leaving her near death. For that he served 2 years in prison while she suffered through re-constructive surgery and suffers night terrors on a nightly basis. While he is in prison he divorces her. Oh, and did I mention that after he was convicted and was leaving the courtroom, he threatened to finish the job when he got out of prison? Nice.

She then meets this wonderful man who she admires and is very interested in, but will not pursue because she still loves her husband and believes that sleeping with the H will be breaking her vows. Not to mention that she still lives in the house where she was attacked because her husband (she did not refer to him as ex-husband) found it when they first got married and she always loved the house.

In the meantime the H is falling in love with her and she is flirting with and kissing him (although she follows it with the typical confusion and remorse, etc, etc)

The last straw for me is when the husband is released from prison, within 2 days tracks her down in Vegas, and walks up to her at a nightclub in front of the H and everyone who loves her and asks her to dance...and she says YES! EVERYONE she loves is pulling out all of the stops in order to keep her safe while she is in this delusional state of mind that she can have her husband and marriage back.

I'm sure this happens in real life, but that doesn't mean I have to tolerate it. I'm done. I hope the Hero is done as well although I'm sure he'll suffer through until the book is almost over, when the h will miraculously come to her senses. Of course, she will only come to her senses after her ex-husband tries to kill her again.

No thank you.

This is no ordinary romance story. It is a roller coaster of emotional upheavals and heart-pounding drama, mingled with romance and light-hearted humor, amid surprising plot twists. I read a large portion of this book while trying to see through the tears. Raeann Blake has a way of drawing you into the story, making you feel like you're right there in the midst of it all, experiencing every emotional upheaval right along with them. Read this, and you'll be hooked. Her first two books, Taming Clay and Red Says I Love You were great, but she has even surpassed them with this first story in a series titled The Seven Brothers of Elko, this being Book One, Jake. So there are more to come! Yea! Keep up the good work, Raeann.

I don't think anyone would want to go back to anyone who beat and raped her. Afraid to leave yes. Still love no.

I absolutely loved reading Jake (The Seven Brothers of Elko: Book One), all about Brinley Phillips & Jake Reardon who met in Las Vegas when she was visiting her big brother Tommy. You see Brinley has been thru a lot and is still trying to recover after her ex-husband nearly killed her two years ago. Tommy was her brother Carl's best friend, but when he died when she was fifteen, he decided she needed a big brother to look after her and he appointed himself. He's totally in love with her but she has no idea, and he just doesn't want anything bad to happen to her again. But he's seen the strain on her face and in her body and knew she needed a vacation, so he picked her up in Texas, and flew her on his jet to Vegas for a couple of weeks. Only problem is there are no rooms, so she's going to stay on his couch, but she's very Leary of this. So while they are having lunch with friends, she meets a guy named Jake that she can't take her eyes off. The author wrote an incredible story, and the characters literally bring this book to life. It's about an amazing women who has been thru the most horrific things that any human being should ever have to endure! Read this book because it will make you laugh out loud, cry like a baby, sigh, shake your head more then once, and cum up a storm. This one of the most heart-wrenching books I have ever read. I've been reading it from cover to cover for the last four days, and haven't been able to put it down! I can't wait to read book two! Please take the time to read book one, you won't be disappointed!

My friend shared this book with me and it was AMAZING!! At times I laughed out loud and other times I cried like a baby! I loved how she told the entire story instead of shortening it! Can't wait for the other books to come!!

This book was very intense both in the love making and the physical conflicts. I could feel the joy and the pain. I couldn't put it down and held my breath in some parts wanting it to work out the way I hoped.

I can't wait for the next issue and am disappointed that I can't get it right now! It will become a part of my favorites!

One personal preference~I do think that the profanity was a little much and especially the use of jesus as slang. The story didn't need it. The quality was superior to that kind of language.

Nevertheless, can't wait 'til the next one.

Her Cowboys are great, both macho and very gentlemanly. I love Raeann's books. Have read them all and anxiously await her next book. Jake is the first one in a series and he does meet his soulmate who happens to also ride a horse quite well and is smart. That's what I like about these books. The characters are smart and handsome. Let's hope we get Book 3 in the series.

I loved the first two books of this seven part series. They have all the things I like in a series--good characters good story line and just a little bit of conflict and suspense. Can't wait for the next five!!
