Funny book!, April 1, 2009
This review is from: Jake the Snake and the Stupid Time-Out Chair (Paperback)
Jake the Snake and the Stupid Time-Out Chair is a hilarious and delightful book for early readers and parents. The author captures the voice of this kindergarten boy perfectly. Jake the Snake's oreneriness is likeable to Dennis the Menace. This funny, well illustrated book will have readers anticipating what the next chapter will bring. A must read for any child or parent.
My 2nd grade son doesn't really like to read, but he loved this book. And so did I! It's funny!

Jake the Snake and the Stupid Time-Out Chair, April 10, 2009
This review is from: Jake the Snake and the Stupid Time-Out Chair (Paperback)
I've had the pleasure of reading one of the newest children's books out Jake the Snake and the Stupid Time-Out Chair by Shelly Faith Nicholson. This is a fun story to read written in the voice of Jacob Sylvester Nelson affectionately refered to by his friends and family as Jake the Snake. A typical American boy five and three quarters years old, full of mischief and loaded with energy.
Regaurdless of his intentions everything he touches turns to distruction, from sandcastles made out of his mom's laundry detergent soap, or cutting up his Sunday best suit coat and tie to use as artwork, to him accidently drowning his brother Johnny's pet lizard Larry in hot melted chocolate sauce. With each disaster Jake the Snake is sent to the place he hates the most, the stupid time-out chair his mother keeps in the corner of the living room.
With each unwanted trip to the stupid time-out chair Jake the Snake realized Christmas is getting closer and closer. His fears of getting the worst Christmas gift ever, a stupid lump of coal or maybe even a replacement North Pole mom, were getting stronger and stronger. After tipping over the Christmas tree while trying to put the star on top by himself and yet another trip to the time-out chair he decides he better pay the big fat scary guy Santa a personal visit at the mall. With a belly full of dippy eggs from breakfast and a nervous visit explaining his situation to Santa, Jake the Snake gets sick and loses his breakfast and it's a good thing there was a fast thinking Santa's Elf helper near by to save Santa from a mess.
Christmas morning has arrived, Johnny and his little brother Jake the Snake jumped out of bed and rushed to the Christmas tree to see if Santa had paid them a visit at all. To their surprise under the tree they found...well, you will just have to read the book for yourself to see what they found.
This is a wonderful story for parents to read to their children, especially those with little boys. Great job Shelly.

Hilarious Book, March 23, 2009
This review is from: Jake the Snake and the Stupid Time-Out Chair (Paperback)
This book is hilarious. It will make your kids laugh. The main character is a 5-year-old boy and --oh boy!-- is he a character! He swings off the chandelier, builds a sandcastle with his mom's laundry detergent. And he makes his pet lizard drowned in chocolate sauce. Without giving too much away, there's a nice lesson to be learned at the end. Very funny. This is a funny book with short sentences for beginner readers. Five stars.
