5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for all Pokemon Trainers!
My 4 year old son used his Christmas money on this toy. He just got introduced to Pokemon and loves all the Characters. I had no idea what Pokemons were all about but having the Pokedex helps us both learn all about the little guys. My son really thinks he's a pokemon trainer now that he has his first Pokeball and Pokedex! It has 5 games and the pokedex gallery is great...

1.0 out of 5 stars Great if it isn't BROKEN
Mine came late for my son's birthday... and even with fresh batteries it just cycles back and forth between the maze game and a certain pokemon. Poorly built and obviously this one didn't get much QC.

Oh well. A good value if it worked. Get one off eBay for a fraction of the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for all Pokemon Trainers!, January 3, 2008

My 4 year old son used his Christmas money on this toy. He just got introduced to Pokemon and loves all the Characters. I had no idea what Pokemons were all about but having the Pokedex helps us both learn all about the little guys. My son really thinks he's a pokemon trainer now that he has his first Pokeball and Pokedex! It has 5 games and the pokedex gallery is great for little kids who can't read because it's by picture. There is also an index that you can select your pokemon alphabetically or by number. It also has a match up that tells you what pokeman battle best together. Audio is great ( a female voice gives pokemon facts ) and the graphics although black in white are pretty good. The games are fun and even at his age he can manage most of them. As he learns more about the Characters the games will get easier. The dial that sticks out of the unit isn't functional it's a plastic piece that's just for looks and pivots back if want it out of the way. I guess so it looks like the one on the show.

It's very realistic. I think he spent his money well. Although my son is young I think older kids will enjoy it also.

4.0 out of 5 stars not from a parents point of view, November 24, 2009

Here's the deal, I'm in college and I still play pokemon. My roommate bought me this because he's a swell guy. I really like the product, but it is my claim that it is not necessarily what your "kid" should be using to learn about pokemon... in just a short time of playing the maze mini-game, i noticed some fairly drastic inconsistencies with the actual pokemon world. And this is where the review gets nerdy: When asked who would win a fight between skunktank (poison and dark type) and chingling (psychic type), i chose skunktank because psychic does zero damage to dark type. and dark is "super effective" against psychic. very confident in my decision, the game then told me i was wrong saying that psychic is "super effective" against poison, which it is. but the point here is that the information was based on the pokemon only having 1 type instead of 2. Also in a similar situation, the game told me that a certain pokemon would win because poison is super effective against bug. which just simply isn't true.

I got this for my son for his birthay. It keeps him busy on long trips. I love the fact that it has the option to turn the sound off!!!

The kids were excited to receive the toy. They are really into Pokemon so it is fun for them to learn about the characters and play the games. I like the volume option.

4.0 out of 5 stars First Pokedex, May 15, 2011

i got this for xmas a couple years back, i didn't plan on buying it. i never had the original, and i didn't want to spend $30 or whatever this was priced at the time of release. i beat the maze game several times, and played the memorization game alot fun for short spurts.

The sounds are annoying and louder then i expected, but you can turn sounds off. It's just a black&white screen which after getting it hoped my sister didn't pay full price for it since i didn't feel it measures up to the high price tags i'd seen online for this when stumbling onto it(not saying it's a bad item i just didn't feel it was all that advanced and worth 30 or 40 bucks or whatever it was).

It is the right size too if you want to cosplay with it, and/or you are a true pokemaniac or your child wants ''one just like in the show!'' or whatever.
