5.0 out of 5 stars Relax people...It's a TOY!!!
Okay, so the icing machine takes some finess & practice...so what?! My daughter & I have FUN together and end up with a little cute tasty treat (really, they taste pretty good - especially the cinnamon one.) If you follow the instructions on the batter (make into pudding consistency)and the icing (firmish dough) they come out great. Before we started I told my daughter...

So my nephews and nieces came over and my daughter decides that she wants to open her birthday present and "bake". We agree, because it only needed a microwave and some water to make "supposedly" tasty cupcakes. Easy right?? Not really...

And it begins... luckily we didn't have to assemble which was a blessing. We grab the little mixing bowl and pour in the little powdery mix. ON a side note, a big annoyance is the fact that the set starts you off with 4 cupcakes only. One in each flavor: Vanilla, Chocolate, Red Velvet and Cinnamon. So luckily, the big kids that could participate were only 4 so there wasn't any arguing. The down side once again... only one bowl and mixing spoon/spatula. We pour in the 2 tablespoons of water, daughter mixes and we pop it into the microwave with its appropriate container. Twenty-five seconds later; VIOLA! It is indeed a cupcake, but a spongy-holey looking one. Within a minute, my honest reaction was: "WHAT'S THAT SMELL?" I kept on asking if the dog had urinated somewhere. We discovered that the "glorious" smell was indeed the birthday girls Vanilla cupcake.

The next three children went, 2 tablespoons of water wasn't enough for some of the mixes. Chocolate after it was nuked smelled like poop. Cinnamon smelled like cinnamon batter and Red Velvet smelled like different poop. Nonetheless... the 4 cousins were excited to ice. The contraption/syringe that you have to stuff the icing into is just way too small. When you finally load it and the kids start pressing down, it just plops down icing at the same point for each revolution.

At the end of the day, it was fun for them, stinky for all of us and too darn messy. You are better off with supervised baking then this junky mix. Wonderful idea, but the flavoring needs to be tweaked majorly. The kids licked off the icing and then proclaimed they didn't want any more. TYPICAL!

2.0 out of 5 stars Save your money!, September 27, 2008

This review is from: Jakks Pacific Girl Gourmet Cupcake Maker (Toy)
I reluctantly purchased this for my daughter, and I am so sorry I did. It takes less time and mess to make cupcakes from a mix and let your daughter or son frost them with canned frosting. The contraption to twirl the frosting onto the cupcake makes it come out in a big glob and actually flung some right onto the floor. It wasn't pretty like on the commercial, and my daughter got so frustrated she was almost in tears. The cupcake is simply a microwave cupcake that looks disgusting. We haven't tasted it yet. The maker comes with only 4 mixes and 4 frostings, which means you can make a total of 4 cupcakes for $30. I've seen additional mixes for $12. If it was really fun and easy, I wouldn't be so harsh, but the whole thing was a huge disappointment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing mess, October 9, 2008

Although this is a cute little cupcake maker, the cupcakes it produces are not (at least the frosted ones). The cupcakes cook quickly and quite well in the microwave, but the frosting part is a rediculous mess. The frosting is gritty and lumpy and is either too runny or comes out in globs. My daughter has enjoyed making them and says the cupcakes taste good though, so I guess it wasn't a total waste of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Go ahead and buy it if you want to create tears!, December 2, 2008

Wow, this hunk of junk was so bad, I don't know where to start. I had 4 kids and 4 packages of cupcake mix. That was the only good thing that came of the whole fiasco!

The mixing and "micro-baking" went well and everything was good until we hit the icing point. This contraption literally slung blobs of icing and unfortunately most of it landed and dribbled over the sides of the cupcake and made a mess. No way was this icing experience even close to the commercial version. *tears* from my daughter.

I get out a spreader and manually spread icing on top of the cupcake and let her decorate it. The worst is yet to come...

As soon as she peeled the cupcake paper liner away, the cupcake literally crumbled. She had a fist full of cupcake *more tears*.

I think it had something to do with the microwave "baking" because every single cupcake crumbled the same way. Shame really.

This is one Birthday present that will get put into the closet and forgotten about.

Next time we will bake "real" cupcakes!

Don't waste your money. Really.

This product should be discontinued it is so bad. I read the reviews and was hesitant to have my sister-in-law buy it as a gift for my 5 year old daughter. She insisted that she wanted it so she got it! The cupcakes overflow when baking for the proper amount of time and then the so called icing machine throws icing everywhere but onto the cup cake! When you press the lever it spins the cupcake so fast that the icing flew all over us and the counter. Very little went onto the cup cake. It was a JOKE!! I wish I could get a refund for it. What a disappointment!

I am so sick of false advertising. The commercial showed a very pretty swirl of frosting on top of a nice looking cupcake. I don't expect the product to be perfect but we made the frosting according to directions, a firm cookie dough consistency. It came out looking like a pile of dog poo three times. We used refrigerated can frosting and got the same results. Lots of laughs. Won't be buying refills. Might try using store cupcake mix in baker though.

My daughter begged me to get the cupcake maker after seeing it on a commercial. It made the most pathetic cup cake. It was difficult to get the proper consistancy of icing to get it to work. When we did finally get it to work the cupcake flew off the holder. I returned it the very next day.

If you follow the instructions on the batter (make into pudding consistency)and the icing (firmish dough) they come out great. We like that you don't have to sit around & wait for it to cook for forever. Think of it as a craft activity. Smile & take a chill pill. If you expect bakery quality cupcakes, you need to get real and remember it is a toy. If I was a little girl I would love this set!

This cupcake maker turned the process of making a cupcake into a complicated mess, and the taste/smell was so bad that my kids didn't even want to eat them. We made two cupcakes and were so put off by the process, and end result, that we will never make another one. I really regret getting this for my kids. One other thing I was disturbed by was that there was no nutritional information on the packages. I have no idea what the ingredients were, which made me think twice before letting my kids eat them, but luckly they didn't even want to eat them. Save your money!

1.0 out of 5 stars Cupcake Disaster, November 9, 2008

I recently purchased the Deluxe Cupcake Maker set for our daughter's birthday. We tried it this morning and to put it nicely it was HORRIBLE! Each cake mix requires a different measurement of water. After, microwaving it for 30 seconds it comes out with tiny little air bubbles and like a fallen cake. I know my way around the kitchen and it was trouble-some for me. The instructions are very vague and give no direction to how to differentiate between the batter. The yellow cake batter was the worst as no matter how I tried to manipulate the water amount it never worked. There were inconsistence amounts of batter versus frosting. There was one cinnamon, 12 red velvet etc...

This was not a fun thing to do and I was hoping that it was going to top the EASY BAKE OVEN!!!

Please advise if there is a trick to the cupcake making process as well as the frosting as it too had to be manipulated to even some what work!!!

OH and the dropper.... what is that!!! Personally using proper measurement words would have been helpful
