I will start off by saying that my 7 year old LOVED this, once she got the hang of it. She managed to unlock all of the songs in a couple of hours on the easy level, but she still likes to play for fun.

My problem is that the design was obviously not tested very well on real children. The strumming "bar" is more like a touch sensor and it's not sensitive enough so the children need to really "strum" it rather hard to play the notes.

I thought my daughter cut her thumb wide open on this, although i could not find any sharp parts. After using it at a birthday party, when the same thing happened to another child, we realized it was not a cut, but a huge blister. these kids were taking turns and no child played more than 5 minutes at a time, 2 kids, 2 blisters, bad design.

so while it may be a lot of fun, it can also be a pain, literally. wish they had thought out the design a bit and tested it on real kids. the kids will like it, but it's hard to let a child play with a toy that you know is going to cause a painful blister that will be around long after the guitar is put down.

I was concerned about this when I read a previous review about the kids hurting their fingers. I decided to try it anyway. This was a gift for our daughter for Christmas (7 years old). Turned out to be a HUGE hit with everyone. Our 6 year old son also wanted to play it. Granny played too. The funniest thing was walking into the living room and seeing Dad by himself playing and "getting his groove on" with Hannah. Gave us a good chuckle. We have Guitar Hero for the Wii which I'm used to. I assumed this guitar would be the same size, but it is smaller. It's the perfect size for our daughter who turns 8 in a week. Dad... well he looked a little "delicate" with it :) They love how similar it is to Guitar Hero, I loved hearing something other than hard rock and everyone loved Dad's teeny-bopper attempt.

This toy was purchased for my Granddaughters Birthday. The whole family says that it is a very great and very fun toy, since it interacts with the televison. It is easy to use and very durable. I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't think that it would stand up to a family of seven.

Some reviews stink . But this is overall a decent game like any other toy you'd buy . They will like it. It is fun Music is catchy .
It isnt educational but it does build motor skills, hand and eye coordination ??
Wont hurt hand . Unless your playing for hours ..
Portable too . Easier than guitar hero . Age range 4-9 Id say..
Merry Xmas!

My daughter got this about 2 weeks ago for her birthday. At first, the toy infuriated us as we couldn't figure out why we couldn't get a single note to strum. I came here and saw the mentions of the sensor bar and was able to get the guitar to work by strumming against the sensor. It didn't recognize me every time though and it did hurt so I understand what the other reviews were referencing. It would be much easier if the strum was soft like Guitar Hero.

I played around with it for a minute and established that the sensor works just as well if I thumped the side of my thumb right above the metal bar rather than trying to strum -- so that saved the pain factor. My 5 year old doesn't have the strength in her thumb so she operates the buttons and slaps her open palm against the strum area of the guitar every time she is supposed to strum. She loves it now and really enjoys playing it. I think it will be awhile before she is ready to go above the easiest level but now that she can just slap the bar - she can complete the entire song.

Other than the strum bar, this is a great product.... and even then, there are ways to go around it - you just aren't strumming.

I really like this a lot. It's a lot of fun and it has beginner levels good for my young daughter and the hard "pop star" level is a challenge for me, the Dad. It's a great substitute for Guitar Hero. And all the songs are the actual songs by Hannah Montana, no muzak versions or performed by a sound-alike. They are the real songs.

As far as the blisters from the strings that other reviews have identified, the version that Amazon sells now is "new and improved" and no longer has any strings on it. It's just a very smooth and sensitive piece of metal that you just tap or slide your thumb across to strum. So no worries about blisters anymore.

For the people that have reviewed that it is too hard, they probably weren't playing it quite the right way. You need to press one of the three colored buttons to match the color of the note falling, and THEN strum the guitar at the right time when the note is in the circle at the bottom. You need to do both actions at the proper time or you won't "play" the note. The easy level has one note falling slowly at a time and the hard version has multiple notes falling quickly and in combination. Fun for all!

Highly recommended, especially at this price!!!!

I bought this for my 23 yr old friend who is a HUGE Hannah Montana fan. She absolutely loves it. Because the "strum bar," is actually a sensor (a metal one) it's totally different than playing Guitar Hero. Also since the guitar is made for children it is insanely small. Like ukulele small! Even though it's for kids I didn't think it would be so tiny!

Also I didn't know this thing needed batteries to work, I just assumed it would magically receive power from the TV (or faeries maybe...). Stupid on my part, just a warning to parents to buy batteries before you give this to a kid or they won't be able to play with it! Makes for a depressing gift if you can't use it right away. Batteries needed are AA. Four I believe (don't quote me!).

All in all exactly what I expected for a great price at Amazon!
