This has to be one of the most original bands in existance. Here you have Black Metal that is influenced by Polka. Now I know what you're thinking, "What a terrible mix!" When I first told my father about this band, he said to me, "Man, they'll market anything nowadays", but after he heard it, he was blown away! Take my advice and lay all skeptics aside. When you actually hear this stuff, you can't help but have a smile on your face. It's that good. These guys are pros when it comes to meshing the two genres. What better genre to mesh with metal than Polka? Very impressive.
Another thing that impresses me with Fintroll is their ability to write good songs. To me there are a lot of bands out there, especially Black Metal bands, with good musicianship but the inability to write a good song if it killed them. You find nothing of the sort with Fintroll. Not only is this some of the catchiest metal, but it's also chock full of wonderful musicianship. You'll find layers and layers of memorable melodies. If you're into metal and are interested in seeing how far it can be taken, give this one a try!

Amazingly not poop, November 25, 2004
Finntroll is musically and thematically brilliant, a sort of soundtrack for a dark forest. If you don't like polka with your metal, don't buy it. If you like amazing, pure folk-metal, dark soundscapes and great musicianship, order it immediately. Don't listen to the review below (or above, I have no idea). Anyway, a brilliant mix of traditional finnish folk and metal.

Aaargh, Matey, Aaargh!, March 3, 2005
This is a surprisingly fun album. Can't understand a word they are singing but then again, I never listen to the lyrics anyway. Let's just say their "articulated vocal noises" are right on the mark. They are such a unique blend of death metal and Finnish humpaa (?) music and it somehow works. And, it works very well. I picture lots of partying trolls, dwarves, whatever all having a good time singing, drinking, grunting and mumbling up a storm. It also reminds me of a bunch of non-English speaking pirates on a drinking binge, hence the title of this review. Quite well done and highly recommended.
