5.0 out of 5 stars Great for reference and practice
As a beginning drummer (been at it for only 8 years) I bought this CD to practice with. I was not disappointed. Each rhythm is played first in a basic style, then with embellishments, and finally with melody instrumentaion. This helps the listener in learning to pick out the base rhythm from the more filled performance. I also recommend anything by Turku for listening...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for dancing!
I was on the hunt for a great drum solo, with 2:00 time limit, and when I found heard the iTunes samples, I thought I hit a gold mine! I thought with 43 songs it was a great deal! Only to find out that each and every track fades into different songs after 15 seconds. I didn't understand what the purpose of it was, so I logged on to read reviews. Luckily, these drummers...

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD for drummers, or dancers for learning rhythms, February 15, 2003

This review is from: Jalilah's Raks Sharki 4: The Rhythm Workshop (Audio CD)
This is a really cool cd! Its especially great for drummers that want to learn a bit more about how the rhythms fit into the music, which is unlike any other drum teaching CD I've seen out there. On this cd, a drummer plays the rhythm in a fairly plain & basic manner for a little bit, then a snippet of a song is played (really good snippets of good classic arabic songs! no lamey new agey stuff) to give an idea what it sounds like in a song, the styling, etc. At the end of the cd most of the rhythms are played again for a longer time so you can practice to them. I think its a great approach.

The only bummer is I really liked some of the song snippets and they cut off after just a bit, so now I think I need to buy the rest of the Jalilah cds!

Luckily, these drummers know the value of good belly dance music...and apparently I, like a past reviewer, need to start collecting the Jalilah full length cd's! I will be able to use this cd, but not as I hoped...wish iTunes posted a description or something. :)
