A Delightful Book,
By Diana O'Herir (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Jam Jar Lifeboat and Other Novelties Exposed (Paperback)
A delightful book -- Kay Ryan's sparkling verse, encircled by
Carl Dern's witty drawings. Poet Laureate Kay Ryan's poems need no enhancement, but this little volume - perfect in shape, size, and execution - is a charming tribute. A perfect gift.

Kay Ryan loves Ripley's Believe it or Not. We know this from the epigraphs of some of her earlier poems. In this delightful tomelet we get a soul-nourishing omelette full of her reactions to a bevy of unbelievable claims. So many of Kay Ryan's poems help us see the miraculous in the every-day. These poems bring the freaky, outlandish and extreme down to earth with Ryan's signature pith and wit. Funny and winsome.
