I live in Jamaica Plain, so I bought this book in hopes it would be at least entertaining from an "oh cool this story is about my neighborhood" perspective.

Truth is I couldn't finish it. The writing is very macho yet basic. It is not very stimulating to read, rather it is more like listening to a bunch of frat boys recall their latest drinking event with gusto.

After reading aloud the opening lines to a friend, he described the writing as "getting punched in the face by character details." - I think this is quite apt.

This book is terrible. If they author just stopped repeating himself, it would be half the size. Can't imagine anything in this book could actually happen.

Heard about this in a local newspaper and bought it here on Amazon. Although set in Boston, the city was more of a backdrop than a "character," as in a Dennis Lehane novel. Some of the familiar places add to the reading experience, but more importantly it was a good, solid thriller. Apparently this guy was published first in the UK--I just purchased one of his earlier works and looking forward to reading it.

Colin needs to come and visit JP... He'll update the character of the city. Glad I bought this, it was worth the read.

I'm a huge fan of Lee Child's "Reacher" series and I thought this looked similar. I think the author is a fan also and loosely based his character on that. It's not a bad read but definitely not as refined or engaging as Child's books. Can't really say I'll look for more but if nothing more interesting is available I may give him another try.
