5.0 out of 5 stars humbly authentic. jamaicans and the recipes are the heros, July 13, 1997

This review is from: Jamaican Cooking: 140 Roadside and Homestyle Recipes (Paperback)
I am responsible for the family trips from 1961, when she was 2 yrs old to 1985 when I stopped vacationing there. I feel not only prejudiced but slightly responsible for the love affair with Jamaica and Jamaicans. Lucinda really did her homework, including cooking each and every recipe for us, her NYC friends and our Jamaican friends. In Jamaica, it is hailed as the first real expression of "roots" cooking; to me it is a special display of content, text, and photos which expresses with humble and admirable acurracy the real cuisine of that glorious country. Of course I am prejudiced,....I am her extraordinarily proud father. C. George Scal

After renting a house in Montego Bay several years ago and having a Jamaican cook we have tried to find a "True" Jamaican cook book. This is it! From the meat pies that we had downtown to the lobster curry caserole our cook made. This cook book captures the true flavors of Jamaican cooking.....

5.0 out of 5 stars A real Jamaican Knows, March 7, 2006
This review is from: Jamaican Cooking: 140 Roadside and Homestyle Recipes (Paperback)
I was born and raised in Jamaica until I was 13 and learned to cook from my mother and grandmother. I gave this book as Christmas presents to a few friends who love my cooking and wanted to know how to make many of my native dishes. I found this book years ago when 1st published. After reading the receipes I knew it was the right one because it sounded much like my mother and grandmother teaching me in the kitchen years ago. I've tested a few of the recipes that I didn't learn and they tasted like I remember eating....LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. A MUST BUY.
