4.0 out of 5 stars The best story plot for any James Bond yet!, March 31, 2002
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
There are 4 James Bond games in this world. There's Goldeneye, for the N64. This plot was kill, kill, kill, oh, and when your done could you please kill these people too? Tomorrow Never Dies, for the Playstation, seemed to never get anywhere. It was 3rd person, had sloppy control, and I couldn't make out a storyline. The World is not enough, N64 again, was probably the most amazing N64 games there. Agent under fire seems to follow in The World is not Enough's footsteps, but takes everything TWINE took to the max, and takes the max to the max... if that doesn't make any sense don't worry because it doesn't... With more gadgets, guns and girls than any other 007 game, along with the most stunning graphics out of all the 007 games, and probably the best plot among any other 007 game.

When I put the CD in to play, got through the intro, and got to main screen, and selected "Select Mission" and pressed start, I was immediately put into a mission briefing. Q, M and Mickaloi (the gadgets wiz) will explain what to do, when to do it, and what is happening. When I pressed "A" and started the game, I experienced a cut-scene. It showed me in a car driving to a tower. Then, Q explained my options of entering. You can use a Q-decoder to glitch the lock on a door into opening, or use my Q-Claw to climb up the wall and drop from above. I was speechless! As I went on, the story develops, and the game gets more and more interesting. You have 3 tries to complete a level (if you die at certain milestone, you start there) until you die completely and are exited to the main screen again. The guns and gadgets are definitely more impressive. The one problem: WHERE THE HECK IS PIERCE BROSNON! The new James Bond is some weird looking guy whom has one eyebrow up 24/7 and has this ridiculous smug grin on and his accent is anything BUT British. He sounds like some guy with a French mom and an Irish dad and speaks with an Italian accent. Apart from James Bond not being Pierce, I give the gameplay a 10/10.

The first thing I noticed when I turned on the game was the opening scene. If you've every seen Playstation, the opening scene is always in full 3D textures... then the game starts and the graphics, well, plain-out suck. Gamecube reverses that! The actual game is more impressive than the opening! If you shoot a car with fireworks in it, the fire explodes and you won't believe it's fake. Then, you notice that the glass is falling faster than the rubber, but slower than the titanium. You will then see smoke immerse the whole area, and it crawls into cracks and bounces off railing. When it slowly clears, you'll see a scorched car. Now, with just that mind, think of what the rest of it is like. There is no blood, which I actually enjoy, because it seems pointless to make it into some Resident Evil slaughterfest. Dead bodies disappear, explosives remain charcoled, cars remain dented. When you hold a gun, you can see the reflections of stuff on the shiny side. You would not believe what had to have gone into this. The graphics without a doubt MUST be a 10/10.

You want to know how cool the sound is? Just look at the things characters say. "Bond is here!" "You're a dead man Bond!" "Over here, quick!" "Sound the alarm!" "My turn!" "Bond is here!" "You're a dead man Bond!" "Over here, quick!" "Sound the alarm!" "My turn!" Unfortunately a lack of diverse dialogue among enemies is in this game. There are two types of voices. Some girls say these things, and men can say this with an American accent or a Spanish accent, depending on the level. Bullet firing is mostly the same depending on the gun. Ricocheted bullets have about 2 different sfx. Explosions sound the same. All together, it's not the greatest. Most "Bosses" talk to you, and M and Q will say things, but sometimes the same things, in levels. All in all, in a first-person shooter/adventure/action game, you have to imagine it is hard to have so many different sfx. I feel justful in giving the sound element a 7/10.

In a first person shooter, speed isn't everything. Game speed plays a factor, but in AUF it runs at a good normal speed. Loading time is ok. It takes about 3-5 seconds to load, save or start a game. What really bugs me is when you have an objective complete and it transfers you to a different place, you'll pause while bullets fly everywhere (you can't be harmed) and people are yelling until the next level starts. In the first level, you press an elevator button, and the game pauses and starts up again at the destination of the elevator. Immediately, you are open to enemy fire, with little time to react. All in all, I think speed deserves a good 8.5/10.

Ugh. Unfortunately, the controls on this game kill it. Unlike N64 007 games, where Z (conveniently located in the back of the controller where your middle finger rests) is to shoot, A is to open doors and B is to change, while holding B then press A switches gadgets, our press start to pause the game then select the weapon/gadget of your choice without flipping through your entire inventory, these controls make no sense. The Control pad, (Not the analog stick, the thing that moves around) which your entire thumb could easily fit over, is to change weapon and gadget. Pressing left or right flips through gadgets, then to use it you press B. To flip through weapons, use up or down, then R (on top of the controller pad where your index finger is) to shoot. L (Your other index finger) is to aim, and Z, for some reason, is to change modes (silenced, not silenced, Auto zoom, maximum zoom, auto fire, single shot, blast, etc.) and A is your "action key", but also automatically empties your guns barrels and puts in a new one, which can cost you a maximum of half in the barrel now if your unlucky. I have to say, the controlling is horrible. James Bond, you are the weakest controller. Goodbye. 6/10 is MORE than fair for the controller. YUCK!

One word: Rent it... okay two words, whatever. With a minimum of 12 levels, which one completed there is little need to play the lengthy levels again, and Multiplayer is not to good, you can only be against the CPU in certain games, and games with human people are extremely short. You may want to try a level again to home to receive a high score, then a gold medal, then do it again for a platinum medal. But, in the end, it doesn't really add up. You won't want to replay so; I give it a mere 6/10.

As you can see, if you want a good game to play over the weekend, or on a vacation, just borrow it from someone or someplace. You'll have, as bond says in one level "A barrel of fun" for a few days.
Let's review

Gameplay: 10/10
Graphics: 10/10
Sound: 7/10
Speed: 8.5/10
Controls: 6/10
Replay value: 6/10
Total: 47.5/60 giving James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire a 79.67.

CHEATS: You acquire cheats by completing levels with a certain score (scoring is brand new to 007 games) and get bonuses. Then, play again when you have a gold medal, and if you find a certain # of 007 medallions, you get even more benefits with a platinum medal. It's a very clever idea; I'm willing to give AUF 5/5 more points.

James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire's New Total is: 84.67

...But sadly, not the best. The graphics and gameplay in "Agent Under Fire" are fantastic, but at times the game is way too easy. While this in itself is not so bothersome, it does leave something to be desired once you complete the game.

You are 007, the agent who needs no introduction, and it is your job to save the world (a cliched spy plot that still works, suprisingly), which is done by completing various missions. What I love about this game is the diversity. In "Goldeneye" you were almost always on foot, running after and shooting baddies. In this game, you can race through the streets in the BMV Z8, or shoot enemies out of the back of your car while your sexy female sidekick drives. Also included are a variety of new toys, like a laser to cut off locks, or a claw to latch onto high places.

The graphics and music are stunning, taking full advantage of the Gamecube's abilities. The animation and cinematics are also well done, and very life-like. This is the next best thing to being Bond.

The flaws mentioned before are not crippling, but I would have liked a little more challenge. Personally, I prefer "Goldeneye" for N64, simply for the depth. Don't listen to anyone who says "Buy the Xbox or PS2 versions instead", they are exactly the same game, and the pros and cons apply to all versions.

Who ever doesn't have this game you have to get it! The graphics are so cool and the sound on dolby digital surround sound is AWSOME! Even without surround sound the sound is still cool. It has 12 levels/missions. It also has new gadgets and here they are: Q-Jet, Q-Claw, Q-Laser, Q-descripter. There are other ones but you will have to find out while you are playing the game. (....) It has some new guns. One of the guns is the P2K which looks exactly like the real thing. This game is out for PS2 and the graphics are just a little bit better on GameCube. On one of the levels(the third) you have to disable a van to get something, but dont worry you will find out what it is. You can't destroy the van or else you will fail your mission. The car you drive has missiles, rockets, etc. There I just gave you a little tip about the third level. You have to buy this game!!! ...

3.0 out of 5 stars An attempt at Bond. James Bond., June 16, 2005

= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
Agent Under Fire was the first James Bond title to appear on current-generation consoles, and its a decent if not spectacular effort. This game is notable in that it doesnt feature Pierce Brosnan's likeness as James Bond, but an entirely new face that seems to draw from all the James Bond actors over the years.

Really, this is an average shooter all around. The enemy AI isn't particularly intelligent, and the graphics are decent but not noteworthy. Bond comes with some extra gadgets, but most of these seem like gimmicks without much versatility. There's a very sci-fi-ish plot here involving clones that seems to stretch believability even by Bond standards, and its capped off by a disappointing non-ending.

The best parts of the game though, are the driving and rail-shooter stages between the first-person levels. At the time it was a pleasant surprise to get a nicely produced driving engine in a shooting game, and rail shooters are always fun for their simplicity in an old-school, arcade kind of way.

I had fun with Agent Under Fire, and its an entertaining game if you go in with the right expectations. Later Bond games are much improved, suggesting that EA did learn from their time with this one. Bond fans can add this to their collection without worry, but hardcore gamers should look for an overall stronger experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gamecube martini anyone?, April 3, 2002

Where shall I start? Well...first, like everyone knows, this is a first person shooter. The graphics will blow you away. The facial expressions are so realistic that I had to look twice before noticing they were computer generated. Also, the levels are great. Flawless imagery. However, there is one small drawback, but hardly enough to drop the rating. The game is quick. What I mean to say is that, it is easy to beat. Another problem I saw is that the enemies take a whole round of bullets to kill, unless shot in the head. Also, there are not many stealth elements. Remember Goldeneye and Perfect Dark? Your heart pounding when you had to sneak up on that guard? Well, there is not a lot of suspense here. Just pure unadulterated shooting. Well, that's three flaws right? Oh well, they are small flaws...because the game is rievting in itself. But, here's a cherry on top...the driving levels. Those were my favorite! The explosions and the stunts! Well enough of this. In two words I sum it up...GREAT GAME! It's worth your while...buy it! I totally recommend it. You wont be disappointed. And if you are...its time you retire as a 00 agent.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's good but needs work, March 21, 2002
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
Number 1 I own this game on GCilike this game but I'm going to give you a two point perspective. I am 21 years old so I'm not some 13 year old kid just telling you it's cool because it's gc x box or ps2

We will start off with the Things I don't like about it.

You have to shoot people alot to kill them, unless you shoot them in the head. No matter what gun you have.

Levels are Short

Aiming: It [no good] at first but you will get used to it. You will definitely hate the aiming the first couple of times you play it, but you will in time get used to it.

Multi-player levels.....way to small

Cut in movies in middle of gameplay. Very Annoying. I want to play a game not watch it.

Thngs I like about the game.

Graphics are great

Makes you feel like your there

Intense gameplay

AI Bots in multiplayer

New Devices and Guns

Car Chases with Bond Cars.

Overall I would recommend buying this game. It is fun and multiplayer is fun to have when you have friends over. Just remember the MP levels are very small but you wil still have fun.

I am not dissapointed in this game but I am ready for Rave to take the Bond Franchise back. It is Time.

My final score 7/10.

Replay is good also.
Hope you found this helpful

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but not PERFECT (Dark), March 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
This game is leaps ahead of the other Bonds to come out on the n64 exept for one or two areas. The levels are amazing in that they are incredibly detailed and fun to play over and over again. There is a new ranking system that lets you earn different medals to unlock guns and multiplayer levels for every level you complete. The medals are the biggest improvement in the bond series so far.
The main area this game is lacking is in the multiplayer mode. There are bots that you can play against, but there are only four, when there should be 8 like Perfect Dark. You cannot change their personalities as much as in PD either. Also, the multiplayer levels are extremely small. It's like you turn two corners and you've already seen the entire level. If they could have made the multiplayer mode like Perfect Dark the game would be perfect.
Bottom line: Graphics are amazing; all 12 levels are huge and detailed to play over and over; the medal system makes you want to play for hours trying to earn better medals; cool guns and gadgets; Rare should have made this game instead of EA (let's hope they will make the next one); This is a MUST buy for any 1st person shooter fan.

This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
...

Anyways, this is one awesome game. I have played it at my friends houses for PS2 and the switch to Gamecube should be no problem.

Goldeneye was a great game. T.W.I.N.E. was good too but not half as good as Goldeneye. Agent Under Fire beats them to the ground and squishes them like a bug with incredible graphics, the obvious James Bond soundtrack, new guns, incredible realism and effects, and some sweet driving levels.

This has got to be the best James Bond ever and is a serious rival to Halo and Metal Gear Solid 2

5.0 out of 5 stars Guaranteed Fun for a long time!, March 21, 2002
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
James Bond makes another glorious appearance on a Nintendo system, this time with 007: Agent Under Fire. This game was made by EA, (not Rare Ware) so it wasn't the same people who did GoldenEye or Perfect Dark. But the guys at EA sure know how to make great games too, and this game is an excellent first-person shooter (fps). You'll run around using many cool weapons and Q-gadgets (like the Q-claw, Q-laser, Q-specs, Q-jet, etc.) The levels span all across the globe, and theyre all very graphically pleasing. In most levels there is more emphasis on shooting than stealth, but you'll have to sneak around every now and again. And the single player mode isn't just a first-person shooter, it has driving and shooting levels to add variation. In some levels you will find yourself poking out of the rooftop of a car or tank, shooting at tons of enemies (you control the shooting, not the actual car movement). Then there are levels where you actually race through cities in Bond's awesome cars (BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB5, etc), which of course are modified with awesome Q-gadgets (like missiles, oil slicks, Q-pulse, etc). Both the shooting and driving levels are really fun, and add alot to the single-player experience. You will also be able to unlock special items by getting high scores in levels, which just adds to the single-player replay value. But with first-person shooters the serious replay value comes with multiplayer...

I can't even begin to convey the utter joy i've had playing 007: Agent Under Fire multiplayer with 3 friends. First of all- you can use the Q-jet and Q-claw in multiplayer, which is so awesome. The Q-claw in particular has changed the whole face of fps multiplayer. Instead of just running on the ground shooting other people, you can use the Q-claw to fly around like SpiderMan, which adds the whole vertical dimension to each level. It's basically an incredible grappling hook that sticks to anything (if you hold the button down you can stay where you are), so you can shoot yourself up high and just hang there to assasinate people. Eventually me and my friends got so good we were using the Q-claw to get around everywhere, flying across each level, shooting rocket lanchers as we made passes at each other. If you haven't tried this yet then you're missing out on some of the best fun you'll ever have playing any game (seriously). Just try the Castle level with Rocket Launchers and the Q-claw (also- use controller setup 4 for multiplayer, this is the best setup and the only one that works perfectly with the Q-claw and jet). There are also other multiplayer modes like: Protect the Flag, Golden Gun, Anti-Terrorist Training, and Top Agent. There's an escort level too, which is basically a multiplayer sniper mode (really cool). Plus you can even put computer bots in multiplayer matches. But the catch is- only four players can play at a time, which includes bots (so if there are 2 human players you can put in 2 computer bots, if there are 4 human players you cant put any bots!) All-in-all this game is superb, even if it does have a few minor shortcomings (more bots and some blood would have been nice). I can certainly recommend this game as being worth a [money] purchase, the Q-Claw multiplayer alone makes it worth the money, not too mention all the excellent single-player levels and gameplay modes. They really packed some serious fun into this game, and i know i'll be playing it for a very very long time.
