4.0 out of 5 stars Second Best Bond Game Yet
I've purchased three bond games now: this xbox version, The World is not Enough (N64), and of course, the N64 classic version, Goldeneye. The xbox version falls in second place among the three.

Well, whenever someone sees "James Bond" on a game, its probably gonne be picked up. Well, I was walking around at blockbuster, and that exact same phenomenon happend to me. I took it home, popped it in, and began the first mission. I was at parts amazed, at parts extremely disapointed while playing "007: Agent Under Fire for the Microsoft XBOX (by EA Games).

I've purchased three bond games now: this xbox version, The World is not Enough (N64), and of course, the N64 classic version, Goldeneye. The xbox version falls in second place among the three.

The rendering engine on the new version is phenominal; you can't go wrong with the graphics power of the nVidia video card in the xBox. The missions aren't quite up to snuff versus the classic, however. They were somewhat challenging, but lacked complexity. The game action is smooth, and the controls can be set to work just like Halo, in case you have a preset feel for controls that you don't want to retrain yourself on.

One thing I did like better is the scoring mechanism (obtaining cheats). In the original bond, all cheats were achieved solely by finishing certain missions in set time limits. This version combines time, weapon accuracy, ammo efficiency, bond moves, and some other metrics to determine your total score. It's a nice approach to granting cheats, and leaves you with a lot of things to think about when trying to achieve them other than just rushing as fast as you can. You all remember how many times it took you to race through the facility in GoldenEye to get Bond Invincibility!

All in all, this version is pretty solid, entertaining, and well written. I hope that EA puts a bit more into the actual mission goals next time, and skips some of the movie scenes between the mission objectives.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good game that lacked depth, December 14, 2002
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
Well, whenever someone sees "James Bond" on a game, its probably gonne be picked up. Well, I was walking around at blockbuster, and that exact same phenomenon happend to me. I took it home, popped it in, and began the first mission. I was at parts amazed, at parts extremely disapointed while playing "007: Agent Under Fire for the Microsoft XBOX (by EA Games).

1. Gameplay: Okay...but not very good in a lot of parts. First, it just feels too easy. You go around shooting people who don't usually shoot back. The game is based on AUTO-AIM, which really kills gameplay. The graphics are great for the PS2, but on the XBOX, the people don't look half as good as they should. The missions overall are short and easy. There isn't much of a variety of guns. There is hardly any ammo, and for that case, what you come with isn't very much. The guns aren't very creative either. Just a handgun, maybe a rifle here or there.

Vehicles: You normally control just one or two every 5 levels. One time you get to control a car with a ton of weaponry, but it's gets old after awhile. The ability though, when you have an assistant in the car, to shoot from the headroof was extremely COOL. That was one of the few places you got all kinds of guns. Vehicles are here, they're just not that common.

Story: Pretty good; it actually has one at least. You must save a hostage, escape the terrorists, take out people in stealth, break into the room, etc... It actually went by a story line, but the crappy part was Jame's girlfriend gets...

2. Graphics: Decent, but not good. People's hands don't have 5 fingers, the backgrounds and guards and such don't have faces. Bullet marks disapear after going into the wall. No weather factors, collapsing buildings, etc... The graphics here were, once again, good, NOT GREAT! Better than most PS2 games, but here on XBOX, one of the worst.

3. Sound: Probably the best part of the game. The voice acting (while people's mouths don't move when they talk) is excellent. The sounds of gun shells falling to the floor after re-loading brings the gameplay alive! The cars squel when they start fast, explosions rock the screen. Overall, it's pretty good. The music in the background is...BOND, of course. The sound was the best part of the game in my opinion, that and:

Multiplayer: Very fun! The levels are fairly large, and the variety of weapons is huge! From jump packs, canons, bazukas, shot guns, snipers, handguns, etc...there are tons of guns. The game keeps score, and you can work as a team in 4-player; 2 on 2 combat! There are life vests to keep your health up, and the overall gameplay is good. I loved only one part of this game. it was the multiplayer!

This game, overall, is a good game in terms of how much is costs (a twenty should cover it at most stores). Persounally, I'd buy it for the multiplayer, not the story mode. Something to chill on the couch and play with yours buds in multiplayer, or even watch someone breeze through the story in a matter of an hour or two. This game is a blast in some ways, and a MAJOR disapointment in others. I plan on buying it...maybe (after renting it for a week).

Thx!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a Goldeneye but FUN!!!!!!!, April 21, 2002
By
Neil Shaak (Dunwoody, Georgia USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
Agent under fire is a really good game. You're James Bond trying to stop a mad man from cloneing world leaders. Unlike Goldeneye you can use spy tactics. Like hiding behind obejects so the enemy won't see you. Or shooting a bomb and killing a lot of enemies around it. The best part is the enemy A.I. Unlike goldeneye the enemy doesn't come running after you for no reason. In agent under fire they can think.

Now about the game:

Graphics 8.5/10
The graphics are really good. Not Halo good but good. The skin colors are a "little" messed up, but you're having so much fun it won't bother you. The only thing better about these graphics than Halo's is how the lips move very well. Halo's lips look like puppets.

Control: (Origianl 4.5/10) (Control Setup 2 w/ invert pitch 9.5/10
The original control is aweful, it's pretty much impossible to use. But "Setup 2 w/invert pitch is great. It's just like Halo's control. And it's a lot easier to use.

Multiplayer 9.999999999/10
Multiplayer is really good. You and your friends will have loads of fun shooting each other while using your Q-Claw ( a gadget to hook on to things like walls, roofs, lamposts, etc.) to grab on to things. There are many levels to choose from (all are fun). and you can get bonus levels by getting a Platnium medal in the 1-player game.

Overall Fun 10/10
THis game is great all together. Some people won't like it because the enemy doesn't come in swarms of 20's. But in Agent under fire the enemy works as a team, making the game more fun. So in other words BUY IT

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for rental, April 1, 2002
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
AUF, as this game is known to PS2 gamers, is a decent game, but probably something you'd rather rent than buy. The gameplay is pretty straightforward: you are 007 and you are to stop an evil organization's evil deeds. The first level feels like a regular FPS: run around some building, shoot at enemies, and save the girl. But the second level gives you something different: you shoot at moving objects (helicopters, cars) from a speeding car! As you advance to other levels, there are more varieties of play, which make the game actually fun. I think it's more of a rental title because the levels are pretty easy to beat, esp. if you choose the low-difficulty level, "operative." ("Agent" is the normal difficulty and "00 Agent" is for hardcore gamers, but even there it's not that difficult for the most part.)

The Xbox version is very similar to the PS2 version, but with smoother graphics and better framerate: I'd rather play the Xbox version, because the PS2 version suffers some framerate problems. But if you have already tried the PS2 version, there is nothing truly new here to entice you to another round of wild shoot-outs and Q gadgeting.

Bottom line: an enjoyable first-person-shooter that has enough variety to keep you entertained. Oh, forget the girls -- they are not really that "hot."

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT GoldenEye!, April 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
I hate to admit it... this game is no way near as good as N64s GoldenEye. Sure, the graphics are superb and the levels provide a good amount of challenge, but, and I do mean 'but', the multi-player levels bite. There are only about +/- 7 of them... and they are incredibly small and there's almost nowhere to hide (as in to sniper your pals). Another drawback to this game is the controller- the controls are on par with Batman Vengence and Silent Hill 2 in complexity... not saying that they can't be mastered, but they're not all that user friendly. Honestly, I wish that I kept my N64, if only to play GoldenEye. This game is definitely worth a rent, but most definitely not worth buying though. If you want a great shooter game with above average multi-player choices, then stick with Halo. I'm definitely not impressed with this game... they could have done so much more with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Graphics Bad Gameplay, November 16, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
I enjoyed this game, it was entertaining. The graphics were gorgeous and I loved driving the bmw in certain levels. However, the gameplay on this one was awful, it takes about four shots from the pk7 to down a guy, and after you hit them once or twice you wouldn't even have been able to tell. The machine guns fire all over the place and about 1 out of 5 bullets hit their target. It has a different story from any of the Bond movies and the story holds it own, however it doesn't offer anything new. I would recommend this as a rental, some people might like the way this game plays out with the driving levels and the especially nice cutscenes and graphics. For me however, give me Goldeneye.

4.0 out of 5 stars James Bond 007: Not quite the same, June 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
Agent Under Fire seemed like another must-get game for XBox, and it is, for the most part. If you have played past James Bond games, this one will not be much different, but in might dissapoint you in someways.

Pros:
1. Amazing graphics
2. Has more of a storyline and movie part introduicing you to each level
3. Great multi-player mode
4. New gadgets that are fun to use vrs. your friends
5. Great overall game
6. I multi-player mode, you can fight off up to three computers on a map and weapon set of your choice. Or you can fight your iends and computers.

Cons:
1. Gameplay doesn't match up to some of the other Bond games
2. Controls can be awkward, but once you adjust the controller set, their fine
3. Not enough driving levels

Overall, James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire, is a worthy game for XBox. Although , it doesn't match up with Halo, it is a great multi-player game. I was a bit shocked at first, because some of the earlier levels were hard to play wit the controls set, not knowing how to change them. However, once the contols were changed, it turned out to be a lot of fun. If you liked previus Bond games, this is a game to get. However, if you don't have Halo yet, buy that game first.

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent, October 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)

One of the main reasons I bought 007 was because the last Bond game I played was Goldeneye on the N64 - which is a great game as far as the N64 was concerned. With the vast improvements in game systems since the N64's development I figured Agent Under Fire would be pretty amazing. Not exactly true.

The graphics are pretty damn good. Sound is fine, nothing spectacular. The weapons are decent, you have a good amount of gadgets and there are even a few levels in which you get to drive some tricked out Bond cars.

The big let down is the length of the levels and the overall length of the game. The missions are pretty short and everything is spelled out for you. One of the great things about the latest generation of 1st person shooters is the ability to explore your environment - not so with Agent Under Fire. These two elements combine to make the missions not only short but fairly boring as well.

If you enjoy first person shooters and have an itch to kill a lot of digital-bad-guys, buy Halo or wait till November and buy Medal of Honor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wasn't the best, but it was pretty darn good!, June 9, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire (Video Game)
This game wasn't that bad, it was pretty good. The single-player missions were good, and the multiplayer was great! The weapons and gadgets were really cool, plus they really helped you in a few missions. The weapons and gadgets were, of course, not as good as GoldenEye for the N64, though. The main reason I didn't give it five stars was because of the low replay value. Sure, the game was fun, but it is so easy to beat on all the difficulty levels, plus the good multiplayer doesn't really save this game. All of Electronic Arts' James Bond games have really low replay value (this game only has twelve extremely short missions), and that is one of the main reasons people prefer GoldenEye. Anyway, the car missions were pretty fun, plus the shooting was fun as well. It did get a bit repetitive. The music was also not too good for a Bond game. If you can overlook these problems, or you just really like 007/shooting games, you will like this game. But for die-hard gamers, shooting games for the XBOX that you will like include: Halo, Max Payne, and other games like that. Die-hard gamers will probably want to play long games that give tham a real challenge and make them think and use strategy. This game is mostly targeted at James Bond fans and I guess people that are new to shooting games might like this game, due to the easy difficulty level.

I'm not the best at gaming, but I'm pretty good. I gave this game a pretty high rating, though. That tells you that this game is pretty good, and experienced games may get a kick out of this game. The main reason people might buy/rent this game is that it's just 007. Well, I guess this game was pretty good. I probably don't recommend buying it, but it may be worth a rent. Try it out.

i really don't know why i enjoy this game so much. i love 1st person shooters. i really enjoyed getting "gold bond" & "platinum bond". i didn't think it was easy to get these at all. it really makes the game more enjoyable to have the power-ups. i have played this game many times and still continue to play it. i am really looking forward to "nightfire" this fall. from the video's i have seen, it looks to be even better. by the way, i think "goldeneye" is a classic & will always be, but the graphics in "agent under fire" are much better.
