From the title alone, I'm sure you can determine if you have an interest in History Channel's "James Bond Gadgets." Guess what I'm going to say? If you like James Bond and are a fan of the History docu-series format, this may be just the item to hold you over until "Skyfall" drops into theaters this winter. The DVD brings together information from a couple of different specials (produced in different years) combining some of the classic gadgets and cars from yesteryear with some of the technology from the more modern Bond outings. Among some of the features are the Auto Gyro from "You Only Live Twice," the Acrostar Jet from "Octopussy," the Q-Boat from "The World is Not Enough," the classic Astin Martin whose debut goes all the way back to "Goldfinger", the Rocket Belt from "Thunderball," and the Underwater Scooter from the same film. These are some of the more high profile subjects, but there are plenty of others as well.

As with most History presentations, it certainly is more of a surface look than an in-depth analysis. But I enjoyed seeing how the tech elements and contraptions evolved as the series progressed through the decades. I wouldn't necessarily call the gadget information essential or particularly revelatory, but it's interesting enough if the topic appeals to you. One of my favorite segments included a visit to the Spy Museum which I didn't know existed, but is now on my Bucket List of places to go before I expire!

A major selling point of this DVD release is its singular Bonus Feature. You also get the episode of Biography that profiled Bond creator Ian Fleming. Fleming led a fascinating life, and this really rounds out the package for Bond lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for Bond Fans September 22, 2012

I've always been a fan of Modern Marvels and this DVD contains two episodes devoted to the gadgets of the world's greatest spy - Bond, James Bond. As a bonus there is a biography of Ian Fleming which does a great job of giving the viewer some insights into the mind that created Bond.

If you are a fan of James Bond, this is a must have as an addition to your collection of movies and memorobilia. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Video January 5, 2013

The video is from Modern Marvels (the gadgets part) and the Biography channel (the Flemming bio). Interestingly, the gadgets portion which is very interesting does not have any clips directly from the bond movies. They do have some shots taken by the crew, but none from the movies. It would have been more interesting if the real gadgets were shown with movie footage. Overall very good.

When I grow up I want to be Q. Not quite as glamorous as Bond, but he does get to play with some wonderful toys. This is a compilation of two History Channel programs on the subject and just about covers it all.
