I laughed and cried ... I just couldn't put it down.
Michelle Ntombela
Trudy's story has compelled me to examine the characters she brought to life in this book and ask which I would be, had I lived so close to the God-Man, Jesus.
Donna Jeffery
It was very interesting and I could not put the book down until I finished it.

I'm always attracted Christian Fiction stories that are based on the bible and embellished with "they way it may have been". It's always amazing to realize the research the authors have done. I very much enjoyed Trudy's interpretation of James, the brother of Jesus.

While there is very little written in the Bible about Jesus' brother, this book gives a new light on what 'may have been' the early life of Jesus and the effect it could have had on the rest of the family. The book doesn't always ring true to Bible-know events, but it does make one think.

I liked the book. It was an interesting read. Just remember it is fiction.

It was very interesting and I could not put the book down until I finished it. It is written as if the author was James and was written in first person. I am certain it was a lot of the author's own ideas of conversations James had but made for very interesting reading and likely it could have all happened the way it was written. The basic information if Bible based.

This book is written in the first person from the viewpoint of James, the son of Joseph. The author imagines how James must have felt after his mother died and Joseph married a young woman who was already pregnant. James sees Mary as a nice young woman with delusions of visitations by an angel. As he watches the boy Jesus grow up, he sees him as arrogant, probably because of his consciousness of being the son of God, as Mary taught him. And later, James is concerned about the family reputation as Jesus begins his ministry. We see hints in the Bible of this sort of attitude by the older siblings of Jesus when they try to talk with him, and Jesus replies that his family are those who believe in Him - which implies that they do not.

While the Bible doesn't give a lot of details about James or any of the older children of Joseph, and the life of James may have been different than the author portrays, I believe the author does an excellent job of portraying the attitudes towards Jesus from the viewpoint of traditional Jews who held the Pharisees in high esteem. And she made me examine my own heart and wonder how *I* would have reacted to Jesus if I had grown up with him. Perhaps we shouldn't be too sure that we would have reacted differently to Jesus than His contemporaries did.

An interesting and thought-provoking read.

I was happy to see this title as the biblical book of James is my own study at this particular time, and I have enjoyed other books by Trudy J. Morgan-Cole. I find this her best.

Excellent...brings to life the possible story of James and his struggles in believing his own brother is God's own Son. Loved this book!
