One of the defining elements of James Browns career has always been his electrifying live show, and his performances at Montreux give ample evidence of this. This CD/DVD focuses on his choice as the best of them all from 1981. Its a string of hits from start to finish delivered with all the flamboyant style and showmanship for which he is rightly famous.

Awesome incredible performance by the Godfather whom I had the honor and pleasure witnessing live twice in 2006. There never will be another! Why did I rate this particular set so low? The dvd is awesome the companion cd of the show was butchered! There are only 10 songs on the cd and some of them were ridiculously shortened! The entire concert could have been on the cd also. The dvd is about 71 minutes long and the cd was about 37.No excuse for this. Whoever was in charge of producing the cd messed up royally! Save your money and by the single dvd concert it will save you the aggravation and waste of money of the 2 disc set.

Amazing how the biggest selling points for longtime fans and collectors either doesn't make it past the line-up card exchange or they wind up as unsatisfying h'ors d'ouvres: case in point...the Review title.Overall a very strong DVD, with JB in high spirits and high energy. Best part: JB jumps into the audience on "Please, Please, Please". Definitely one of the better James Brown concert DVDs, though it has the same issues of A & R sameness and not much artist-audience interaction. Compare this DVD (and many others) with most of his live CDs and you'll too remark that JB without that element is not the real deal.
