PreSchool-Grade 2?James's teacher tries to stop the boy's daydreaming of dinosaurs by insisting that he either find one of the prehistoric creatures or complete his overdue homework assignments. James's quest takes him from the playground to the mall to a carnival. Even though he never detects them, careful observers will spot dinosaurs all along the way. The prose plods on as unsuccessfully as the protagonist. Although the watercolor illustrations of the dinos have a certain appeal, the people are curiously distorted. Johnson's title may fill a niche in exhaustive collections of "hidden picture" books, but it isn't memorable in its own right. Steer readers to Carol and Donald Carrick's Patrick's Dinosaurs (Clarion, 1983) and its sequel for a more satisfactory reading and viewing experience.?Kathy Piehl, Mankato State University, MN

4-8 yrs. Young gradeschooler James is faced with a dilemma. He has to find a dinosaur for his teacher, or turn in his classwork. So James sets out to find a dinosaur. From the local mall to the park, no matter where he looks, James cannot see the dinosaurs. Well, readers will discover that James isn't looking hard enough. An amusing story that children will like.
