The best pie cookbook ever written!,
By A Customer
This review is from: James McNair's Pie Cookbook (Paperback)
Wow! The previous reviewer is exactly right on every point. These recipes are awesome. The pictures are gorgeous. Everyone raves about my pie crust, which tastes and looks great! The pecan pie is especially good -- not too sweet, and the sweet potato pie is to die for. The coconut-coconut-coconut pie is my husband's favorite, but I like the summer peach pie the best. If you like to bake pies - or eat them - buy this book.

If you want to take the time to build a pie from scratch and are looking for recipes that will give you the best results, this is the book. We tried about 5 of the recipes in 3 weeks and each was better than the one before it. (I gained a quick 5 pounds during this time.) Although we didn't try some of the more exotic recipes in the book yet, we fully intend to work our way through them all. The presentation of the pie is also a highlight of the recipes. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. There's a picture with each to give you some idea of the end product. This book gets our highest recommendation.

This was the first cookbook I used to make a pie; that was 17 years ago and it is the ONLY book I use for making pies. People try to give me other pie cookbooks, but they don't even come close to Mr. McNair's book. Easy to follow recipes, beautiful photos and scrumptous pies. No one else in my family will make a pie. I am known among family and friends for being the best pie maker and I owe it all to this wonderful little book. I even bought a back up copy for when the first falls apart!

The Most Awesome Pie Book Ever Written!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: James McNair's Pies (Hardcover)
I've been baking pies for over 30 yrs. and consider myself an above-average baker. However, the "Making Perfect Pies" section has tips on baking pie crusts that I have never seen in any other book - it calls for a couple of more steps in the process, but these extra steps are WELL worth it. I only make my pie crusts the "James McNair" way now - and the results have been incredible. All my pies now get RAVE reviews! Thank you, James McNair is all I can say.

this was one of the first compliments I received after making one of the pies found in this terrific book; and the compliments keep rolling in. You can't beat this book if you're looking for pie making tips. The recipes are simple and straightforward - and tasty! I have worn out my first copy already since I refer to it almost every time I make a pie. The only thing that would make the book better would be if it were spiral bound!

The Best,

This is the BEST pie book. I've made a lot of pie and have been searching for the perfect sweet potato and pecan pies for a while. I stopped searching after trying McNair's recipes (though I do cut the sugar in the sweet potato by 1/4 cup). His coffee crunch pie is delicious, as well, though you need to let the filling cool completely (not just 15 minutes) before adding the whipped cream. Can't wait to try the rest. Really, if you're looking for great pie recipes, buy this book!

James McNair's Pie Cookbook is a great book for beginning bakers and an inspiration for more established bakers. It explains the fundamentals of making pie crusts, fillings, and the baking process. The photos are superb and give inspiration for creativity, such as an elegant looking square pecan pie. The book's binding is fragile though, so be careful or you will have pages falling out.

There are a couple of recipes in here that are worthwhile, but not enough to justify the book. Do yourself a favor and get Pie by Haedrich.....much more comprehensive.

Our son has wanted this cookbook forever--he loves to bake pies and this is supposed to be the creme-de-la-creme of cookbooks. He was so pleased with it. Finding it on Amazon and ordering from one of their sellers was an easy process, and one I was sure would be successful. There wasn't any worry about it being a reputable dealer. It came faster than I expected and was in perfect condition. (And the recipes are keeping us in dessert heaven!)
