About the Author

Beth Moore has written best-selling Bible studies on the Patriarchs, Esther Moses, Paul, Isaiah, Daniel, John, David, and Jesus. Beth's ministry is grounded in and fueled by her service at her home fellowship, First Baptist Church, Houston, Texas. Beth believes that her calling is Bible literacy: guiding believers to love and live God's Word. Beth has a passion for Christ, a passion for Bible study and a passion to see Christians living the lives Christ intended.

Beth loves the Lord, loves to laugh, and loves to be with His people. Her life is full of activity, but one commitment remains constant: Counting all things but loss for the excellence of knowing Christ Jesus, the Lord (see Phil 3:8).

This study is a great Beth Moore study! This one has a bit of a different format. The study has 5 different "levels" as she calls them. The levels all build on each other, but the idea is that you can do as much or as little as you feel led to do:Level 1 is simply watching the DVD sessions and filling in the notes from that, level 2 is doing the homework daily, level 3 is a directed writing of the book of James (which she has dedicated pages in the back of the book for), level 4 is reading the excerpts that her daughter Melissa has written to give you more background on certain discussions from that week (usually 2 of these articles per week), level 5 is memorizing the entire book of James (which she outlines as a 5 month process and gives a website with great resources to help you out). The study itself gets into what it means to be a Christian and how faith and mercy should look in our lives on a practical level. As always, Beth Moore is easy to understand, but challenging and encouraging! This is a great study for repeat Beth Moore studiers or those new to her studies!

James Mercy Triumphs by Beth Moore is such a great in-depth Bible study on the book of James that I was sorry to see it end. Beth's older daughter, Melissa, also had some interesting articles included from an historical standpoint based on research she did. I learned so much more about James, the author of this book, than I had known before and accepted Beth's challenge to memorize the entire book of James, which I am in the process of still doing, having memorized the first two of the five chapters. This is a very practical study because the topics in the book of James are still relevant today: Patience, temptation, rich and poor, favoritism, judgment, controlling the tongue, wisdom,, our relationship with God, how to treat others, prayer. This study is fantastic! I really can't say enough good about it. There are DVD's that go with this that I enjoyed too because of some funny stories she shares from her experience to make her points. In particular, I especially liked hearing about her camping trip with the birds and the hair brush story at the airport. That is one I don't think I'll soon forget

I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a challenge who likes a good Bible study.

I am on week two of this study and am enjoying it alot. The material is divided into day long segments which are just right in length, and can be completed in 5 days. I am downloading the videos. I enjoy the "extras" from Melissa and the fact that there is room to handwrite verses at the end of the book.

I joined the Women's Bible Study to go through the book of James. Just three weeks into the book, I have not only grown in knowledge, but spiritually as well. This is my first Beth Moore Bible Studay and I am hooked, girlfriend!

I love Beth Moore and have completed a few of her past studies: Esther, Breaking Free, David, Daniel. There are several different participation levels for this study to choose from: 1. Just watch DVD, 2. Watch DVD and do workbook, 3. In addition to the previous you can also handwrite the whole book of James, 4. Do all the previous plus read all of Melissa's (Beth's daughter) commentaries 5. Do all of the previous plus memorize the entire book of James.

I didn't love this study. I didn't find that any of Melissa's writings added value to the overall study - but just took longer to complete the workbook without added benefit. Additionally, numerous times Beth had us flipping through the Bible to find other obscure references where the same word was used....again, not adding value to the overall study and making the lessons take longer to complete. While I certainly do find value in searching the Bible for other similar ways that a particular word might have been used, there were several times where it seemed like she would reference other places with a similar word...without additional insight to be gained. For example, in the workbook on p 115, she discusses James 3:9 - 12 where James is baffled that the same mouth can be used to curse men and bless God and the analogy that a spring does not send forth both salt water and fresh water. Most of p. 116 is spent making a comparison to Exodus 15:22-25 when Moses was in the wilderness and water was scarce. They came upon bitter waters of Marah but God showed Moses that if he cast a tree into the waters they would be made sweet. Not completely relevant to James' issue of a mouth that has both bitter and sweet things come from it...even though it is the same root word.

Another example is on p.

If you want to really dig into the book of James. This is the Bible study for you!
We are doing this in a group setting and watching the video also. But I think you can get enough out of just the book! It is great! And Beth has her daughter, who is a theology scholar, write about the times when James lived!!

The book is very detailed and a little dry. The writer talks directly to you and it can feel awkward. The DVD series that goes with it is AMAZING and makes the reading so much livelier after viewing the video. Her personality in the DVD makes sense (versus her writing) and she fires you up about studying the Bible in depth.
