Great vocals, good song choices.

I particularly love the song Lookin' For Trouble, but all of the album James is another Red Heads' delight.

Abbie Gardner's dad Herb makes adds some nice piano touches to a number of songs.

Red Molly is very high on my list of favorite artists, so obviously I was thrilled when this CD came out recently. Red Molly consists of Laurie MacAllister, Abbie Gardner and Carolann Solebello, three young ladies each blessed with an abundance of talent. Together, they are unstoppable. With each CD, they get better and better, and this one certainly proves my point. Their acapella version of "Foreign Lander" is not to be missed! I confess that I am an official "RED Head" and intend to be one for a very long time. Buy this CD, you will not regret it! (If I could rate this Cd more than 5 stars, I certainly would!)

Red Molly is one of my favorite bands for a couple of years. Sadly, I didn't find them at their beginning. But I am an avid follower now - a true "Red Head."

The new album "James" adds percussion to several of the songs, somewhat different from their past recordings. But it's never overpowering, adding just the right accent. One song I find particularly well done and heart-breaking is "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive." The more upbeat "The Last Call" is also great; soothing and inspiring.

Luckily, I get to see Red Molly perform live a few times a year. But in between live shows, listening to this CD is the next best thing. If you have other Red Molly albums, you'll enjoy this one. If they're new to you, "James" is a great place to start, but you'll be going out buying their other CDs soon after hearing this one. And if Red Molly comes to a town near you, they're a 'must-see.'

I've been following Red Molly from their beginning and, as a previous reviewer has said, they get better with every release.
The Bob Wills classic "End Of The Line" gets a fresh update, and songs that sound like they belong in the book of traditional song "The Last Call", "Troubled Mind" and "Jezebel" are actually new songs. Jake Armerding gives an fiddle assist to his song "Falling In" that Red Molly beautifully have made their own. Abbie Gardner's dad Herb makes adds some nice piano touches to a number of songs. "Foreign Lander" sung a-capella has a beautiful silky richness. The Nanci Griffith Danny Flowers James Hooker song "Gulf Coast Highway" has a beautiful aching quality aided by Fred Gillen Jr.
Congrats to Laurie, Abbie and Carolann! I hope that the Grammy Awards folks are listening..but awards or not this one is more than worth the price of admission!

At the risk of fueling an emergent potential cliché (trio of harmonizing ladies singing folk music), Red Molly's James, their 4th release in 5 years, really is a pretty nice record. Part of me approaches this with a "been there, done that" frame of mind, but the songs are genuinely well-written and well performed. Acoustic guitars, dobro, pedal steel, mandolin, warm harmonies, nice songs...what can I say? If you like the artists listed below, you'll like Red Molly.

GENRES: Contemporary Folk.

BUY IF YOU LIKE: Indigo Girls, The Wailin' Jennys, The Dixie Chicks, Antje Duvekot.

MUST HEAR TRACKS: "The Last Call," "Jezebel," "Lookin' For Trouble," "Falling In," "Can't Let Go."

Echoing what everyone else has said here, this is a fantastic trio of great musicians. As with their previous CD, there seem to be no filler tracks. At any given moment, depending on mood and the state of the stereo, any one of four or five tracks could be my favorite. Well recorded, spacious and vibrant with no trace of hardness. Can't recommend this recording or this group highly enough.

These ladies are really in sync. I loved the harmony and the great voices, never over run by instruments. I hope they put out more albums in this same style.

I have been a Red Molly fan (apparently we are called Red Heads...) since I first heard their wonderful song Long Island Cowboy. It is a perfect song and definitely in my top one hundred song list of all time. This new album is terrific, though it does feel ever-so-slightly more produced and smooth than their previous work. Still, this trio of warm, harmonizing women's voices (not shockingly different from The Be Good Tanyas) singing folk/bluegrass/country-type songs and accompanying themselves on acoustic guitar, banjo, dobro, and etc. is lovely to hear. I particularly love the song Lookin' For Trouble, but all of the album James is another Red Heads' delight.

I first saw Red Molly in a tiny venue in Tamworth New Hampshire and was amazed at how tight and beautiful the vocals were. Now they come to stone Mountain, another amazing place after a huge snowstorm. It will be the high point in the new year!
Abbey on Dobro is great!
