5.0 out of 5 stars Essential, August 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: James Taylor - Squibnocket [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Although the 3 extant James Taylor videos each have their own strengths, this is the one which seems to me to have no weaknesses. It is the one which will give you a real sense of how excellent his backup singers are. It is the one which shows his rapport with the late Don Grolnick. It is the one where he attains a level of seriousness which the pacing of a live show simply doesn't seem to allow. It is the one where (thru false starts and spoken commentary) you can appreciate how much work really goes into the arrangements of the songs. And, owning all 3, it remains the one which I feel like watching most often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb recording; beautiful setting; as good as it gets!, August 3, 1999

This review is from: James Taylor - Squibnocket [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If you haven't heard 'Squibnocket' yet, then you are in for a huge treat. Honestly, in all the years that I have listened to JT's work, never have I seen and heard anything quite as intimate and exceptional as this. It is a gentle treat for the eye as well as an excellent audiophile-level recording, and a definitive look at why his music can be so trancendental emotionally...it embodies lighthearted comraderie, professional tour preparations, beautiful instruction for any aspiring musician-keyboards, bass, guitar, percussion, vocals- consummate musicianship, and glimpses of JT's life and thoughts delivered on camera by him, without any hype or overkill......it is no less than the most intimate glimpse into this wonderful artist's life that most of us will ever get. Take advantage of the opportunity, because I don't know how it could get any better. Pray that they release it in DVD. This incredible recording deserves to be listened to upon the BEST A/V system you can find....if you don't have one, run with this tape to someone who does! Jack Stoehr-1999

....maybe because that's where James is. This video is an intimate look at James Taylor at his most relaxed; and James Taylor at his most relaxed is JT at his best! It is a trip into his living room to share songs and stories as the sun goes down. Highly entertaining. You'll feel like you know him a little better.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a Barn Dance!, May 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: James Taylor - Squibnocket [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A beautiful video of a beautiful place. This video was recorded at James Taylor's rehersal "barn" (hence the title) prior to the band's tour. As has come to be expected of JT and his band the standard of musicianship is excellent. The interview "interludes" are not too many and pitched just about right - they do not interfere with the music. A lot of JT favourites are included on the video but the star song is "Copperline". To summarise; great music from great performers in a great location. Those of you in the USA will recognize the location those of us in the UK can see similar sights in the beautiful county of Cornwall. See and buy!

James Taylor as seen through his own eyes. And what better place than on Martha's Vineyard, in an old, weathered barn. I loved it.

IT IS LIKE BEING IN ON A RECORDING SESSION AND AN IMPROMPTU CONCERT WITH FRIENDS IN MARTHA'S VINEYARD. THE SETTING IS AN OLD HOUSE AT DUSK AND YOU LISTEN TO OLD AND NEW HITS WHILE THE SUN IS SLOWLY DISSAPEARING....GREAT

5.0 out of 5 stars Soft & Relax Session, July 12, 2000

This video is a opportunitties to know how work JT. I Think that is a session to prepare the Live cd. It have amazing performances of the clasics JT like "Fire & Rain", "You've Got a Friend" and others some new: "Traffic Jamm", etc. I recomend this video and I'm a JT fan since 1977.

5.0 out of 5 stars What more could you ask for?, February 6, 2007
This review is from: James Taylor - Squibnocket [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a great look at JT and his band. I have seen several performances of "Fire and Rain" and this is my favorite. The song is so sacred to James and this recording takes the audience pressure away from his performance. All other songs are great as well, but "Fire and Rain" is, in my opinion, the best song ever written and performed by anyone. All JT fans should have this in their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Increiblemente Hogareño, August 5, 2000
By
This review is from: James Taylor - Squibnocket [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Este video incluye 15 caciones ("Secret of Life","Wandering","You've Got a Friend","The Frozen Man","Mexico,..etc.) Las vistas del estudio es maravilloso. ¡Compralo no te arrepentiras!
