Product Description

It's the book they didn't want you to see.

Here, for the first time ever, the "James Bond Watches Price Guide" provides readers with exact sales price amounts for specific, legitimately-completed transactions related to all confirmed Ian Fleming and Eon Productions 007-film James Bond watch models.

In many cases, interested buyers will be pleasantly surprised to see just how often the so-called "rare" wristwatch you're after is shown to have actually become available over the last year-to-18-months. Don’t be compromised by distracting searches for “similar-looking” watches that will inevitably leave you feeling like a wanna-be for the short time you’ll actually be able to wear them.

As the saying goes, when it comes to James Bond, there are no substitutes.

This is your guide to authentic Bond, James Bond watches.

James Bond watches are the ultimate reflection of the James Bond lifestyle. Covering six manufacturers, over the last half-century, through a wide range of styles and price points, it's hard to imagine any fan of the Ian Fleming books or on-screen 007 character who won't find his or her perfect choice from among the options.

Breitling. Hamilton. Omega. Rolex. Seiko. TAG Heuer. They're all here. From a variety of sources. Pick a model: The Guide will show you how much it’s sold for in the past, how often, and most likely sources. Pick a price: Guide numbers will suggest something in almost any range, from $25 to $25,000-and-up.

Looking to sell? This is your resource, too. Find out how much the “James Bond” affiliation can add to one watch model versus its virtually identical (but not quite) brother. Avoid costly overpricing mistakes that can lead to otherwise fine watches unnecessarily languishing long whiles among the dredges of the unsold.

This book takes the emotion out of finding fair market values for James Bond watches.

Written by internationally-recognized James Bond watch expert Dell Deaton, the "James Bond Watches Price Guide" features over 600 transaction references, across almost two dozen separate models. Current prices, and reference points dating back the last few years and oftentimes more. Exact sales prices: Not estimates, averages, or second-hand approximations.

Content is provided in eBook format to both reduce publication lead-time and deliver content that readers can conveniently carry with them on their Kindles or Kindle App-compliant smartphones (including Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Mobile 7) for immediate reference when considering purchases, or sales via internet, or in-person deals.

Just as important, eBook technology is utilized to its fullest here: Embedded hyperlinks provide readers with immediate access (limited only by device capabilities) to free, current, specific online resources for authoritative writings where controversial watch identifications have been settled.

Photos for most James Bond watch models are linked as well, for those who need refreshers on appearance.

The "James Bond Watches Price Guide" can prepare readers to cut their best deals. Differentiate those watches that may merit more aggressive pursuit from those available frequently enough to allow for more patience, holding out for the lowest possible price.

Your investment in this eBook will likely be justified in just one watch purchase (or in steering emotions away from a slick rip-off).

2.0 out of 5 stars James Bond Watches a bit dissapointing., December 9, 2011

I was a quite disappointed after reading Dell Deaton's "James Bond Watches Price Guide 2011":

1. Price: I felt the price was too high for the content delivered. A better price for this book could have been $1.99 (maybe $2.99) rather than $9.75 considering you need to go to Dell Deaton's external website to view the watch pictures. Had he put the watch photos, which are nice by the way, in the book itself, that would have been much, much better as one could then easily reference a photo for a given watch.

2. Photos not in the book but on external links. See point #1.

3. There were links to articles on Dell's website. The articles on the website were fantastic but available free, no need to have purchased the book. It would have been much nicer to have included the full articles in the book text itself.

4. Could have had more detailed photos of the watches themselves. Front, back, sides. Better descriptions, what differentiates the watch in the movie from other watches or from one another in the different movies. Watch specifications would have been nice also. Dell considers himself the expert on James Bond watches but the book falls quite short in watch specs and photos.

5. Photos from the movie itself where the watch was worn would have been great. In example, a photo of Sean Connery wearing the Rolex 6538, etc... or of Roger Moore wearing one of the many Seiko's or Rolex's as he did.

6. Photos of all watches described would have been nice, not just some. Again, no photos of the Rolex 6538.

7. Although the book is titled James Bond Watches, there should have been a section in the book that shows watches that other characters wore in the films, such as Red Grant's "Garrote" wristwatch in the movie "From Russia With Love".

8. Price listings were listings of many individual auctions, which was great, but no high and low price was given for each specific model nor was an average given. This type of information would have been much more useful for quick referencing of a price range or high/low values on a particular model when shopping around. An all time high/low and average along with an average and high/low price within the last year or last 6 months would have been quite useful as well. Even a line chart showing price trends would have been a nice touch. After all, this is a price guide.

9. There were a few mistakes in the book as well when referring to certain terms. Multiple times in the book when referring to Seiko's LCD watches, Dell describes them as Liquid Crystal Diode when in fact LCD is Liquid Crystal Display. In many sections Dell also refers to the word "providence" when instead it should be "provenance". Providence is a city in Rhode Island. "Provenance" which refers to the chronology of ownership or documented history of a particular object such as a collectible wristwatch is what Dell should have been referencing.

All in all, I felt that all of the above should have been included in the book for a price of $9.75. Had the book been priced at $1.99 or maybe $2.99 as it stands, I would have given it a better review. Had the book had all the content I refer to above at its current price, I would have also given it a much better review. As the book stands though, I feel it was very overpriced.

As a James Bond fan, watch collector for over 20 years now, and watch enthusiast, I sincerely hope you find my review useful before making your purchase.

Thanks,

Richard

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch what Dell Deaton can do, May 25, 2011

Watch enthusiasts are a unique bunch: either one gets it or they don't. And that's fine as far as this reviewer is concerned, because Deaton's book is solely for the watch enthusiast. A watch enthusiast appreciates the fine details of a watch's movement, it's dial, bezel and strap. They know the difference between a Rolex and a Citizen. They also know the difference between a Daytona and a Pre-Daytona. And now, they'll know every single model worn by 007 and his creator, Ian Fleming.

Complete with links to images and further information, Deaton's James Bond Watch Price Guide 2011 has everything one needs to know about wrist wear related to Bond. Well researched and referenced, this guide provides every detail one needs to discern which watch their favorite 007 wore and how to find it. Plus, prices paid are included (I can't imagine the research that went into this bit) so one can expect how long to save up for one of these beauties.

This is a book to pour over and save, so that when a reader attains the wealth needed to sport a high-profile timepiece, they need go no further than this excellent resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wealth Of Information!, May 8, 2011

I would like to congratulate Mr Dell Deaton on this book.

I believe that it is quite unique and as far as I know, has not been done before?

Well done, Mr Deaton!

I learned quite a few things and found it very interesting that now most of the watches worn by James Bond have been identified.

I found particularly interesting, the sections about the Seiko watches, especially the fact that Seiko allowed Mr Deaton access to their records to positively identify the watches used in the Roger Moore films.

If you have an interest in the watches worn by James Bond, then this book may well be for you?

I recommend it!

Once more, very, very well done, Mr Deaton!

More About the Author

Dell Deaton is an internationally-recognized expert on Ian Fleming and James Bond watch collecting.

He is perhaps best known for his discovery of the literary James Bond watch, Ian Fleming's Rolex Explorer reference 1016, which has been covered through extensive feature articles in "Chronos" (German language), "WatchTime," and "NAWCC Bulletin" magazines (with a combined international circulation of 100,000+). As author-creator of the James Bond Watches website, he was first to identify the Omega Planet Ocean to be worn by actor Daniel Craig for his on-screen debut as Agent 007 in "Casino Royale" (2006).

In 2009, Deaton was granted unprecedented access to Seiko UK personnel and information regarding 007-character watches it had provided to EON Productions films from "The Spy Who Loved Me" through "A View to a Kill." Based on this work, the first definitive identification of these watches was published in the fourth-quarter 2010 issue of "Revolution" magazine.

In 2007, Dell Deaton was named by the National Watch & Clock Museum to serve as guest curator for its historic "Bond Watches, James Bond Watches" exhibit. One of the greatest honors of this was having been specifically designated by Ian Fleming family heirs to personally transport the Bond-author's own Rolex to the museum for display through the exhibit run. Additionally, "Bond Watches" marks the first time since Fleming passed away that this watch and the manuscript for the story in which he described it - "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" - have been shown together.

"Deaton has had a lifelong interest in wristwatches and donned his first tuxedo as a James Bond fan in 1967. With the help of his paternal grandfather, he acquired his initial 007-related watch, a Hamilton Pulsar LED, shortly after the release of "Live and Let Die," starring Roger Moore.

A graduate of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and Professional Member of the American Marketing Association since 1990, Dell Deaton resides in Southeast Michigan with his wife, son, and three dogs.
