A delightful read,

This review is from: Jamie and the Angel: Meeting Her Guardian Angel (Paperback)
Jamie and the Angel is such a beautiful story written on a level that children can understand. The illustrations done by Richa Kinra make the book feel familiar and inviting. I firmly believe that angels exist and I wish I had this book as my children were growing up as it explains God's gifts on a level that all can understand. As soon as I finished this book, my first inclination was to say "Awwwwwwww".
On the last page of the book is a letter to the parents with helpful tips on how to tune into their child's (or their own) spiritual gifts. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is in search of their spiritual gifts. What you may think is just your child's imaginary friend, in all actuality could be an angel. Don't miss this book, it was a pure pleasure to read.

This is a book that resonates with simplicity and innocence,

A beautifully illustrated children's book (illus. Richa Kinra), Carol Guy has touched on a subject that has had many a parent scratch his/her head wondering what their child is talking about. Almost every child below the age of 6 and sometimes even older has had an "invisible friend" or has claimed to see people who aren't there. How do you explain this to your children? What can you say to comfort them and let them know it's alright to talk about it?
This story is just the right blend of comfort and level of reading for sharing with your children. Jamie is very troubled with what she is seeing that others don't appear to see. It makes her feel shy and isolated from her peers. Her parents told her it was all her imagination, which made her feel there was something wrong with her. Praying one night, she asked for help. She told God how she felt and asked what she could do. As she lay in bed that night, hoping He would answer her prayers, a bright light filled her room. As it came closer she saw it was an Angel. The angel comforts her with her words and explanation, an explanation that was easy for Jamie to understand. This is a book that resonates with simplicity and innocence. No one should be made to feel different because of what they perceive, what is in front of their eyes, or what they are hearing. Life is all about learning, and some learning curves are different. Some paths switch direction and some stay in a straight line, in other words, who are we to decide there is something not quite right about someone who sees things, whether adult or child. Most children leave it behind but a few do not, and they are our fortunate future. After the end of the story, Carol Guy has written Guidelines for Parents that could be very helpful in dealing with this "gift" that so many children have for only a short while. I as a grandmother found this book to be an excellent resource, both story and guidelines, because my granddaughter was one of these special children. The story itself is only 14 pages plus 1 page of Guidelines and 1 page about the author and illustrator. A wealth of comfort and understanding in one little book. I loved this beautiful little book and highly recommend it to all ages who have or know children, or who still maintain these "gifts". Everyone can benefit.

Jamie and the Angel,

Jamie was a shy little girl, hesitant to speak in school, with virtually no friends. She longed for friends but she was thought of as odd because of her habit of staring into the sky during recess, not joining in on their games. She was called "weird" by her classmates, a taunt that hurt but one she didn't know how to stop.
You see Jamie was a little different than the other children, she saw special things that others did not and people did not understand. Jamie's life was different too, in that her father was in the military and they moved a lot, something that did not exactly make it easier for Jamie to make friends. She tried to explain what she saw that was different than that of other people to her parents, but they did not understand. They did not make fun of Jamie like the kids at school of course, but they did tell her that what she was describing was her imagination. This made Jamie sad that she couldn't even get her parents to understand and she went to bed that night feeling badly. Before she went to bed, she prayed to God because she had been taught that God will help you if you pray to him and believe what you pray with all your heart. Jamie went to bed that night hoping that God would have time to help her. After all Jamie knew there were a lot of people who had bigger problems than she did. Maybe he didn't have time for a little girls prayer. Then something happened that cemented Jamie's belief in both the power of prayer and the fact that no prayer is too small to take to God. What happened to Jamie is nothing but a spiritual answer to a prayer and a wellspring of hope for all who read this, child and adult alike. The ending reaffirms Jamie and even the reader's belief in God and the fact that how God handles prayers despite the age. It is a book that brings back the simplicity of a childs prayer and adds to it the lesson all should know that God is never too busy to listen to even the prayer of a child. This is a book that I would purchase for any child and quite frankly for a lot of adults as well. It brings to the reader a message that God is always listening to you and no one is too young nor any problem too small to ask Him for help. Read it yourself and discover how the ending effected Jamie and perhaps even yourself when it comes to prayer. I highly recommend for readers of all ages, as it touches the heart as well as renews the soul. |
