Fine renders another pitch-perfect transitional chapter book (younger for reading aloud) in this second book about a young boy and his richly imagined stuffed-toy friend. The two embark on six new everyday adventures: Jamie struggles to keep Angus safe from an overly bouncy playmate; dedicates a day to doing something completely different; and learns to paint angry eggs. Over the course of the book, Jamie develops. He goes from seeing Angus as his best friend in the whole wide world to gravely considering whether he is now too old for Angus. In each episode, spare yet vivid language captures Jamie's perspective while supplying humor for adult readers, such as his mother's reaction when she hears that Uncle Edward has taught Jamie a new activity: hold your breath till you turn blue and fall over. Soft pencil illustrations (not final in galley) capture Jamie's loving family and convey his deep friendship with Angus. Harold, Suzanne
