Bought it for one song ...,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Jamie Scott & The Town Lp1/Park Bench Theories (Audio CD)
I bought this for one song - "Lady West" - from the movie "27 Dresses", during the scene where she is trying on all the dresses for the reporter. This CD purchase was a shot in the dark for me. Amazon, iTunes, etc. did NOT have just this one song for download, nor did they have any audio samples for ANY of the songs. :-(My only hope was that I would get more than one song off the entire CD for my money. Well, I ended up with 3 songs that I like: Lady West (see above) Two Men Hey You They included other instruments besides the acoustic guitar (drums, horns, keyboards/piano, etc.), they had a more uptempo beat, and I felt they were more "full". Can't explain it more than that, sorry folks. IMHO, the majority of songs on this CD were slow and a tad bit depressing. Most were a cappella acoustic. Now, I am NOT saying they are "bad", I am just saying that they were not my style, nor the mood I was searching for. The lyrics were very thoughtful, the guitar was very well played. Overall, though, a nice CD. I am GLAD I purchased this WAY less than retail price (I spent less than $6). This was the only way I felt this purchase could be justified (for myself, at least). If you like the song "Lady West", be warned the rest of this CD is NOT like that song except for the 2 others I listed above. If you like slow tempo, acoustic, "deep", almost sad music with good lyrics, then this may suit you. Hey, Amazon - PLEASE make "Lady West" available for individual mp3 download!!

Watch this man go to world fame,
This review is from: Jamie Scott & The Town Lp1/Park Bench Theories (Audio CD)
I heard "When Will I see your face again" on the radioand was immediately taken by the dexterous use of voice and guitar. An amazing shift of rythm before the chorus and the jazz tint to it. Saw two video clips on youtube and immediately ordered the cd. This guy has a brilliant voice which I would liken to a mix of a young Sting, crossed with Simply Red and a touch of the less depressive side of James Blunt. I have since heard him sing cover versions of other songs and note that he displays the same gentle understanding of the words and music on those as he does in his own compositions. Standing in the Rain, Rise and When will I are the top tracks for me and I can't see why all of them shouldn't become best sellers. I am thoroughly enjoying the fresh sound of this cd and eagerly look forward to more from this promising artiste |
