Editorial Reviews

A criminally-lost band and an untold chapter of The Mamas and The Papas saga awaits the listener on this debut release from John Phillips short-lived Warlok Records. With a distinctly British flavour, JAMMË possessed remarkable melodic sensibilities, brilliant harmonies, and hooks galore. The recording sessions many of which commenced at John Phillips home studio were witnessed by George Harrison, Sharon Tate, and Keith Richards. Sourced from the original master tapes, this release features six previously unreleased tracks, including Thanks To The Man In The Rabbit Hat, a tribute to the band s producer, John Phillips. The reissue will appeal to fans of Emitt Rhodes, early Bee Gees, The Move, Buffalo Springfield, and Big Star. This flat-out masterpiece makes its WORLWIDE DEBUT on CD the Now Sounds way: The deluxe full-colour booklet includes previously unpublished photos and exclusive, in-depth liner notes featuring the participation of original band members by noted Mamas & Papas/John Phillips historians Jeffrey A. Greenberg and Chris Campion.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love 60's Pop from the UK You NEED this one, October 17, 2010

Jamme was an Anglo/American band with a shifting membership, largely thanks to the machinations of producer "Papa" John Philips. Jamme kind of strandles the line between power pop and a lighter type of 60's pop. Every song is top drawer, great vocals and stacks of harmony PLUS killer electric guitar riffs. It's as if Badfinger and the Move morphed and yet somehow had a lighter side, too. Songwriting and arrangements stellar. It even functions as a great album: moods vary, lyrically diverse, too. Great remastering job and the booklet tells the complete story (one of the more intersting tales you'll read!)with photos. Now Sounds do great work and this is one of their best.

Don't hesitate!

This great overlooked album produced by John Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas 1st time on CD comes with 22 page booklet with a story that is a great read. Imagine if you will that you are a young unknown band discovered by a member one of the biggest pop groups in the world. He then decides you could be the next Beatles and offers to produce your debut album. That in essence is the story of JAMME.
A great album now with bonus tracks if you like The Beatles, Badfinger and some good music of that style you will love this CD

5.0 out of 5 stars Jamme, 18 July 2010
By Lorna Loves the 60s - See all my reviews

This review is from: Jamme (Audio CD)
It is second time around for this Jamme recording. Now, from the Original Master Tapes, this CD also includes previously unreleased material.

Originally thought to be by brother duo Don and Keith Adey, the truth is finally out. In the extremely informative, accompanying twenty four page booklet, Don has admitted, page fifteen, first paragraph, that Keith didn't write anything and had just done some overdubs, singing harmony on a couple of songs and playing base on one. Yet took full credit.

Jamme was in fact Paul Downing, Timmy Smyser, Don Adey and Terry Rae. Paul and Don wrote most of the material. The four lads had song writing skills and musical ability way beyond their years. So now after forty years the truth is finally out and credit can be given where credit is due.

I believe the cover photo should have been of the four lads, but, I suppose being second time around, something had to stay the same. The omitted band members have had photos of their heads superimposed onto the original cover photo in this release. I don't like it, but I'll have to get over it.

Beautifully produced by "Papa" John Philips(Mamas & Papas), this CD has something for eveyone, from beautiful harmonies, musical ability and meaningful lyrics. If you enjoy 60s west coast music this is for you. From the tongue-in-cheek "Strawberry-Jam-Man" to "Love Makes The World Go Round", which should be dedicated to anyone who has ever been in love. If you remember the 60s put headphones on and drift away to the West Coast of America. If you don't, do it anyway and learn.
