Another Carlin Masterpiece,
By Michael Crane (Orland Park, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jammin in New York (Audio CD)
Whether you see his performances on tape or DVD or if you listen to his material on CD, George Carlin is always on top of his game. He talks about whatever he wants without any fear, and he doesn't care who he offends. (In fact, if you ever told him that you were offended by his stuff, it'd only encourage him!) George Carlin's "Jammin' in New York" is a hilarious album that always keeps you on your toes.On this dark and angry album you'll hear George talk about the Gulf War, little things we have in common, golf courses, airline announcements, eating disorders, more war stuff, environmentalists, and many more. This is one of my favorite performances by him. He hits every note right and never leaves us with a dull or unfunny moment. Carlin dishes out the edgy and controversial material without hesitation. And it's also an album you can listen to over and over again. If you're easily offended by strong language, I'd recommend that you steer clear of this one. After all, this is Carlin we are talking about. While seeing him do his performances is always better than just listening to it, "Jammin' in New York" is definitely an album to check out if you are a Carlin fan. His years in comedy really pays off and you do get the feeling that he seems to improve with every performance. Carlin will always remain a favorite of mine.

Another great Carlin CD,
By Erik Johnson (CT, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jammin in New York (Audio CD)
I'm a fairly new Carlin fan. I've read his book (Brain Droppings), and listened to 3 CDs (You are all Diseased, Jammin in Nw York, and Back in Town). "Jammin" is certainly as funny and if not funnier than the others. Airline Announcements is hilarious, and Things We Share is timeless. Jerry Seinfeld has immitated many Carlinisms from this album, and he cant even compare to the master of comedy. While George's albums are hilaroius, they do speak some truth. They make you laugh about things important to you. He gives you a sense of humor about yourself. I cant wait for the next album.

I was never really into to stand up comedy until I was introduced to George Carlin. I have heard a lot of his stuff, but Jammin' in New York is, by far, the greatest and most well thought out poece of his work yet to date. It is one of the funniest HBO performances that he has ever done.

jammin' in new york...,

George Carlin. I can't believe I've gone this long without listening to his material. Then again, I'm only 18. "Jammin' In New York" is great, funny, hilarious. I especially love his take on flying ("`Put the mask over your face and breath deeply'. Sure, I have no problem with that. I always breathe normally when I'm in a six-hundred mile an hour uncontrolled vertical dive") and experiences that bring us together ("You ever been talking to yourself and someone comes into the room and you have to make believe you were singing?"). It's coarse and it's fun.
Also check out Complaints and Grievances, You Are All Diseased, and Parental Advisory.

Carlin at his best,

This is good for a laugh. George Carlin is extremely funny in most of his word, but "Jammin' in New York" I number among the best. This is good fun for everyone. (But it is explicit and would advise against parents letting their younger children listen to it)... But if you want the opinionated, harsh, comedy for yourself, I don't blame you... it's funny as hell. :)

A monument in George's stand-up comedy!,
By Alex Parkansky (here) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jammin in New York (Audio CD)
I think George should be proud of this album. However, you have to know what was going on at the time to understand The Persian Gulf War material.Little Things is very funny, though I wish I saw it.Airline Announce ments(which is about 17 minutes)is truly his funniest work, right next to "There Is No God."Golf Courses for the Homeless is more thoughtful than funny, but when he talked about aneroxics, I fell over with laughter. Espiecially with the way he says "I DON'T WANNA EAT!"Then the great punchline after that,"Go F%$k yourself. Why Don't you stand in front of a railroad track when you're not eating!"Then, the monument of the entire album, "The Planet is Fine"Very thoughtful, very funny, and this is his best work.Anyone who's a Carlin fan,get this album!

Golf courses and cemetaries for the homeless. Brilliance,

George Carlin is my favorite comedian. He brings more depth, more intelligence, more feeling and also more laughs per capita than any other comic in the business today. At 64 he is on top of his (and everyone elses) game. This CD (which was preceded by a special on HBO) is definately one of his best. It contains some of his most pointful works, with something that will make you think after the chuckle is over. For instance, it would be ridiculous to name a restaurant for bulemics called the Fork and Bucket, but aren't the values that come with that restaurant also equally if more ridiculous. That is the type of point that Carlin often makes in this special. Even when he isn't talking about the big world (his bit Little things we have in common), he can still identify with an audience and even more with his core audience. That is the mark of a really qualified and exceptional comic. Other bits include: Rockets and penises in the Persian Gulf, Airline Announcements, The Planet is fine, and Golf Courses for the homeless. Also to point out, his comments on the Dick Chaney and Colin Powell are awesome.

Yeah, he says a lot of harsh things, but he knew how to address for reaction and he built on that, and for instance, "The Planet Is Fine" he kind of tears down enviromentalism preachers, but with the often funny as heck eruption of the affirmation that- YEAH, WE'RE GONNA DIE SOMEDAY (people as a species) but the planet deals with far heavier things than plastic bags or aluminum cans. Brilliance from George again, which makes me wish my dear father would have let me see his hilarious anecdotes last time he was in Pittsburgh!!! But he lives on in what he did, or more realistically, he made his mark. "Jammin..." is short, but a prime example of Mr/Carlin's uniquity and passion for the art that stand up can? Could be. There'll never be another George, get "Jammin..." and if you like it, every one I have (most I ordered or were gifts from mum on Amazon), is brilliant by the mark.
He was 54 when it was taped.

Lightning strikes again.,
This review is from: Jammin' In New York [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
"Jammin' in New York" is Carlin's third album since the transformative 'What am I Doing in New Jersey," and though the interceding album (Parental Advisory) is still excellent, it is dwarfed on either side by two of the best works Carlin ever released. By this time, Carlin's trenchant tone has been honed to a fine edge backed by a solid philosophy and an exceptional understanding of society. This album is amazingly funny, often in unexpected and delightful ways, but if you were to remove the humor, it would still stand as an eloquent work of philosophy. The piece, "The Planet is Fine" remains my favorite Carlin creation to date. I cannot recommend this album enough!

If you like Carlin at all, you'll like this album. It's right up there with "Back in Town".
