C 803: Uncompromising Style and Sound in a Compact Package

Even though it's small, the C 803 is designed big - and produces a big sound you can clearly hear. It's been built using Jamo's unique convex tapered vent, which reduces unwanted port turbulence and virtually eliminates port noise. Regardless of size, every speaker in the series is represented by the capital C as in "Concert". The sculptured C 80 speakers, with their high level of finish and perfectly balanced sound, are a tribute to the great music and film experiences that we all love and enjoy.

The speakers in the C 80 series share a number of attributes. They all feature tweeters with DTT and WaveGuide, and woofers and midrange units using Hard Conical Cone and Centre-Plug technology. Furthermore they all come with an Active Impedance Correction system, which neutralizes the magnetic field around the pole piece, reducing distortion by up to 50 percent. All front speakers in the C 80 series feature bi-wiring allowing you to fine tune the sound in perfect harmony with your room.

As all of the speakers in the series are developed using the same uncompromising philosophy, it is possible to combine them in a number of different ways. The Jamo Story

It's 1966. In the fishing village of Glyngore, Denmark, carpenter Preben Jacobsen begins building loudspeakers in his henhouse. Though blessed with great woodworking skills and broad knowledge of acoustic technology, Preben soon comes to realize that selling the remarkable speakers he's built is not his strength. In 1968, he brings his brother-in-law Julius Mortensen - an experienced salesman and exporter - into the mix, and Jamo is born.

Coming from KEF 104's and Monitor Audio (Gold) Ref. PMC 702's...
These rival those speakers (which cost twice as much.)
Transparent, airy, detailed... Great stage depth.
Slightly excessive low end, but controllable with foam in the port.
Beautiful!

I was looking for a replacement for an old pair of Onkio tower speakers, and had limited space. So my next speakers should be a bookshelf type. I wasn't very worried about very low frequency response, as I intended to by a subwoofer later on.

After some research I found the C803 with good recommendation, except in a particular review where the reviewer described a pleasant and rich full midrange and crystal clear treble, but week bass response. This is not true; this speaker has a quick and powerful bass, and extremely accurate response. But you need a healthy amplifier. The C803 speaker is rated at 6 ohm, but the impedance of these babies can go down to 4 ohm at particular frequencies.

No problem for my Marantz SR6004, which takes care of it beautifully. Another advantage of this receiver is to bi-wire the speaker. If your receiver provides separate amplifier channel for each woofer and tweeter all you need to do is to remove jumpers at the back of the speakers, and even with a regular speaker cable I was able to achieve a good improvement. I don't even think of buying a subwoofer any more. From explosions and action movie effects to precise music bass, you can actually feel the vibration of the low frequency in your stomach! Even at low volume levels the bass is freely present. Mid range and treble are very rich and well balanced. The speakers show a good presence and the sound fills the room very smoothly.

I found only one problem, these speakers get your audio material completely "naked" and you can "see" it in its beauty and glory, or maybe reveal its awful real image that was under covered by an inferior speaker system. This is not high end, but if you are looking for a superior mid end system you should give C803 a try. Highly recommended.

Just got a set of these a few days ago (last pair in the store) & am blown away by the sound quality they produce. Driven by a NAD C355 integrated amp I really cannot fault them so far at all, even though they are still burning in. I live in an apartment & I've found that they dont have to be pushed very loud to sound great. Bass is already punchy & tight, mids & highs are crisp and clean. I auditioned a LOT of brands, some costing over 3 times as much but these sound the best to MY ears and I'm very satisfied- they seem to be just what I was looking for.
